Mitt Romney’s main strategy in the GOP primaries of 2012 is to hammer Sarah Palin as “a quitter”.

Yesterday, I was interviewed by a reporter for CBS, for a story on the diverse groups of people supporting Sarah Palin online. The reporter authored a book on Palin last year, after being embedded with her vice presidential campaign, following a stint covering Mittens Romney. I can’t imagine how many cucumbers-and-mayonnaise sandwiches this guy had to eat on the Romney Express (to nowhere), but I gave him the same kind of awed respect I grant anyone who’s ever spent more than half an hour with Tim Pawlenty — and didn’t succumb to T-Paw induced narcolepsy.

We (the reporter and I, not Tim Pawlenty or Mittens) met up at Nookie’s Tree in Boystown and talked about Sarah Palin over coffee. Doing enough of these interviews over the course of the last few years, and being interviewed by some great people like Andrea Shea King and Tammy Bruce, I can usually spot the story the reporter wants to tell by the way his questions unfold and what he keeps coming back to whenever I take the conversation on one of my tangents about how terrible the current administration is. The story CBS wants to do on Palin’s supporters appears to be something in the realm of “an unthinking, personal, and emotional defense of a woman they love”. It’s not a negative story, and the reporter doesn’t seem like the kind who would write a hit piece, on either Palin herself or on me as a Palin-supporter, but the impression I got from him was that he’s projecting the Left’s Obama cult of personality onto Palin supporters — when nothing could be further from the truth.

Most of the questions asked of me were in the vein of how I felt whenever Palin was attacked, and what makes me defend her.

No, she quit which was the best financial decision for herself.

You can make the assessment, but don't expect people to agree with it. Neither of us can read her mind. I believe that she is telling the truth, you don't. You can't state your opinion as fact. Notice I also did not state her motivation. I stated that she made the best decision. The fact that the decision frees her to communicate and set the political tone nationwide does not contradict the statement.

I suspect you don't even understand what she's about.

And you are stretching real hard to equate quitting college with quitting an elected position.

The similarity is the expectation of a commitment to a "whole program." Since Palin beat every single challenge that came to court, and settled one without going to court, it's not like she "had to resign" like Nixon did (and one could argue that he might have done it for the good of the country). I don't think anyone can argue that she "can't stand the heat." She's inviting more. If she is positioning herself for a run, she will have to accumulate wealth (as the establishment won't support her), political chits and public visibility. She is excelling at all three. In the meantime, she is forcing the left to get on the record on all sorts of things that they just as soon would have avoided. The Pawlentys and Romneys of the world are incapable of setting the tone. They can only try to dance a Republican version of the MSM's tune.

Gov. Palin is the THE frontrunner.

As always, Mitt Romney is NOTHING but a spoiler and
backstabber. History will record that he dismissed
NONE of the RomneyBOTs who attacked Gov Palin and her
defenseless children on the eve of Election 2008.

Romney is a desperate louse and attempts by Mittens to takedown Sarah will fail.

Won't stop Mittens from making this a pretty ugly fight. Look at SC with Nikki Haley, another situation where the good ol' boys are about to get their a$$es kicked by a girl. Didn't take long for it to turn real nasty.

Getting rid of entrenched self-interests and corruption will never be easy. It will be mean and ugly. Just look at this forum for a preview...LOL.

It’s important to remind everyone of that. It was disgusting, and we need to remember it.

Oh yes, you’re right! Down and dirty won’t stop Mittens, but he wants to play “nice guy” and this forum does give us an ugly preview of things to come. I just read Lakeshark’s comments!!!

Romney is the MSM and Republican establishment’s first choice. Reagan beat them and won 2 landslides but since then the establishment has knocked out any conservative who ran for the job.

Palin may be able to get the nomination. Jim DeMint, Mike Pence, Paul Ryan, or someone else, might have a chance.

The one chance we have of nominating a conservative is to get behind ONE conservative early. Let the establishment run Romney, Huckaphony, Giuliani and any other liberal they can throw into the mix. If we get behind one candidate early we can beat them.

If we do get a conservative again, we have to insist that he or she not load the cabinet and insider jobs with establishment liberals. That was Reagan’s first and biggest mistake and was the main reason he didn’t get government scaled back.

I was disappointed with her resignation too.

It's now become apparent to me that her promise she made when she resigned, the one where she said she was free to come against the horrors of what was happening (my words) on a national scale, that's the one she had her eyes on and kept.

That she is the biggest thorn in the side of the Dems is fairly obvious. That she is one of the few that constantly and consistently sticks up for conservative principles, and sticks it to Bambi and the dems is to her credit. She hasn't "quit" at all, she's just reset her sights and they are on reclaiming our country.

Anyone who can't see that is either blind, or in one of the GOP factions that wants to be more important than she has become. Like Romney.

Beat me. Just show in black and white, dead bodies in emergency rooms. Have the words Obamacare morph into Romneycare. Have Romney’s face simultaneously morph into Obama. Done

No. Romney is the DNC’s first choice.

They are LOADED with material on the backstabbing,
carpetbagging, proven-poor governor.

What a useless worm Romney is to have thrown
the last election to Obama.

Reagan's cabinet wasn't that bad. James Watt, Ed Meese, Raymond Donovan, Richard Schweicker (liberal on everything EXCEPT HHS stuff, so he was well-placed), Bill Bennett, Al Haig. These were good folks.
