An open letter to the President of the American League and the Comissioner of Baseball:
Gentlemen:
I have loved baseball my entire, rather long life.
Regarding tonight's game in Detroit, you both, for the integrity of the game, have a duty and responsibility to reverse the call. Fix it. Get it right.
It is sufficiently clear. Statistics regarding the 28th batter can be reversed out.
A concept such as “we don’t change calls after the fact” holds no water in these rather unique circumstances. Fix it. Get it right.
There is the concept of a protested game, when the actual outcome of a game can be reversed after the fact. By the League President.
There is the concpt of “thrown games,” when the Comissioner can do as he sees fit to fix things, to get them right.
That is what leadership is about. To do otherwise is simply pigheaded stubborness. Do not hide behind the skirts of the law.
Put an asterisk in the Rulebook under your unilateral authority for the integrity of the game: Replay can be used when the call for the 27th out of a Perfect Game is in dispute.
Gentlemen, fix it. Get it right.

I suppose baseball is too cerebral for you. The NFL is nothing but pro wrestling with pads.
Irregardless, it is sad a bad call just robbed us of a feat we may never see again.

This is one of those times I can only think to say ‘Get a Life !’
Ain’t no way, no how, not in this lifetime, that you’re gonna seem ‘em wind back the clock and change the outcome of an officially scored and completed game. Never has happened, to my knowledge, and never will ( nor SHOULD it ).
See, doin’ that just ain’t ‘baseball’. There’s no do-overs in baseball. The Ump blew the call ? Deal with it. Sometimes, it goes the other way, too ... Do you know how many so-called ‘perfect games’ were blown by the ‘Official Scorer’. Way too many ...
And ... just in case it hasn’t occurred to you, this is a ‘Game’. It’s not particularly significant WHAT the ‘quality’ of the outcome was or why it went that way. Detroit won; the pitcher records a W. At the end of the season, that’s ALL that will matter.

There was an extra-innings perfect game, but it was way long ago. Memory fails me, but I bet someone comes along and tells us the team, pitcher and year. This is FR.

I think it’s a day game. It may be getaway day and they can use the extra travel hours for games on Friday. I’m going to try to catch clips of the umps walking out to get the lineups.

Sure! I saw some the other day. A bunch of pantywaists were kicking this goofy looking white ball at some nets....I was looking for Cricket.
That was Harvey Haddix, Pittsburgh vs. Milwaukee, May 1959. He pitched 12 perfect innings, then gave up a hit and lost the game in the 13th. It didn’t go down as a perfect game or even a no-hitter in the record books, since he didn’t finish it that way. That’s why I worded my original post the way I did.
No he doesn't, the integrity of the game remains intact now. It is what it is, a bad call by an umpire. It's happened since the first pitch was ever thrown and will happen until the final pitch is thrown. It's a beautiful game played by humans who aren't perfect and umpired by humans who aren't perfect.........and that bad call serves as a reminder of that fact.
The truth be known, had this turned out to be a no hitter then Galaragga would just be another addition to that statistic who nobody will remember 50 or 5 years from now.
But due to the bad call, he and the umpire will be remembered forever...........
I once lost a racquetball tournament finals match due to the referee calling a skipped ball on me when all the spectators watching knew it hadn't skipped......
Stuff like that happens every day in sports, if it didn't then it would start to get boring......

Now there's one of those words I just can't stand to read. It's the equivalent of nails on the chalk board.
How about using a real word, like 'regardless'?
Football is boring as hell. 5 seconds of fat guys falling down, then getting up, patting each other on the butt, hanging out for a couple minutes, then falling down again, only to repeat the ass-patting, etc.
Hell, if I want to see that, I can go down to the bar or the boat ramp on friday night. And the guys i know don’t get paid millions to do so.
