Saturday, June 12, 2010 Paypal Cuts Off Atlas: Truth is the New Hate Speech The little money that Atlas generates (I have no large donors) is about to be cut off. Apparently the jihad is hard at work trying to kill free speech (and the bus ads and the 9111 no mosque movement) from making its way to those in pursuit of truth. Paypal contributions helps pays for bus ads, rallies, live coverage (everything) and I so much as said so when asked repeatedly by the press who paid for the bus ads. Readers do and did.
Paypal is calling Atlas a "hate" site and will close my account if I do not remove the paypal option from my website. Accurate reporting and news is hate.

Perhaps this is the opportunity for a patriotic American to create an alternative to Paypal.
I don’t have the knowhow but I am sure many do.
Call it “PatriotPal.” There you go, you can have that for free.
This is outrageous. But let’s not waste our time emailing Paypal. Such emails are received by some low level munchkin who will simply file them away (if that).
We need to find the name of the CEO and send real letters of complaint — with copies to appropriate media.
Why don’t we just suggest Pam get a VISA and MASTERCARD account?
I quit Ebay a year ago when they insisted on Paypal (which they own)!
I don’t know much about Atlas, and do not support racism, which the Left uses to justify its own intolerance, but FR could be next the way this is going. The reality is that PayPal would be promoting “hate”.

I just got word of this. How does PayPal determine who is a hate site? Is this legal you think? I bet you CAIR is behind this if not Obama.

Waste time? How do you think she got named a "hate site" to begin with? Because thousands of Muslims coordinated an email campaign against her with PayPal.

I quit eBay last week when I had charges reversed by Paypal due to a claimed “identity theft” problem with my purchasers credit card , item sent was good , item was sent to registered address , payment was “good” per paypal ... the reversal request came no more than 30 minutes after I sent the “your package has been shipped” e:mail. There is no way to fight them and their rules make it absolute heaven for theives and scammers.
They confiscated some of the money from my account and I’m waiting for them to have a live person contact me trying to collect on the rest that “I owe”...
It is a waste of time ... Paypal and eBay are as lefty as they get ,, no different than google... they will take a user or a site down for no good reason but will never investigate the truthfulness of a complaint ... you can’t argue with someone that can’t hear you.
I just contacted PayPal and talked to a real person. Just keep stating “operator” at every voice prompt and you’ll shorten the wait.
Told the guy that I will cancel my account, which I’ve had for about 7 years and have moved over 100k through. Also told him that i would post daily on my FaceBook personal and business pages.
Just canceled my account with PayPal. When prompted for a reason, I clicked the box marked “Other” and put in the URL for Pam Geller’s site.
Now I guess I am done with Ebay too. Ah well....

PAYPAL CALLED, PAYPAL CAVED
Paypal backed down. Excelsior!
As many of you know, on Friday of last week, my paypal account was “restricted.” After a recent review of my account they said, “it has been determined” that I was “currently in violation of PayPal’s Acceptable Use Policy. Under the Acceptable Use Policy, PayPal may not be used to send or receive payments for items that promote hate, violence, racial intolerance or the financial exploitation of a crime.”
Huh?
I posted it over the weekend and received over a thousand letters of support, hundreds of ccs of paypal account cancellations........ the people spoke. Love that.
And so today, about an hour ago, a very pleasant and rather deliberately clueless executive called me from paypal to say it was all a big misunderstanding and Atlas would be reinstated (and the subsequent restriction of SIOA and FDI removed also).
Not so fast, Leslie.
I asked her why I was singled out and who designated me as a hate speech site, and on what basis? Why was revolution muslim (which threatened to murder the producers of Comedy Central) and Imam Awlaki DVDs part of the paypal stable of vendors? She said she was “unaware of a hate speech designation and would inquire and call me back.”
And so she did.
She said Atlas was mistakenly designated when “in review.” I asked why was Atlas in review. Paypal has been on this website since 2005. She did not have an answer. I asked what recourse do smaller websites have? As this is my real concern. My soapbox is pretty big, but what about small blogs?
I told Leslie that reinstating me was not good enough. If a site is designated a “hate site,” who decides? Once designated, you have two choices — lose paypal, or change content. Unfair, mon frere. Leslie agreed. She said she was going to recommend a third choice so that one could contest the designation before a mandatory choice had to be made of either signing off of paypal or changing content.

Update on Paypal Cuts Off Revolution Muslim Because It Is A Hate Site - oh wait
PayPal backed down and offered to re-instate Pamela’s account, she said thanks, but no thanks. Pamela noticed, as did I, CAIR put out a press release praising PayPal’s decision to drop Pamela. Certainly makes one wonder why this happened to begin with - not.
Now for Revolution Muslim, the PayPal button is gone.
