Here is video of Karl Rove reacting to President Obamas Oval Office Address last night. Rove said you could sum up Obamas speech and strategy as, dont let a crisis go to waste. Obama is seeking to use the Gulf Oil Spill as an excuse to pivot to his radical Global-Warming hysteria-driven Cap and Trade policy.
Rove said, These are two different things. Stopping the Oil Leak and cleaning up the mess in not connected to Cap and Trade legislation. Rove does not believe it is likely to pass in Congress because it will mean massive loss of manufacturing jobs and much higher energy prices across the board.

Actually, BP is probably encouraging Barry to take this tack. It's a great distraction and effects BP very little. Encouraging cap and trade actually fits quite well into BP's modus operandi. A few years ago, in the Puget Sound region, BP offered to give up the shortest, safest tanker route to the North Sound, in exchange for permission to build a second dock. BP is not permitted to own tankers (though they do have a straw company set up) and giving up the tanker route would have handicapped their competitors and cost them money. Thankfully, the Coast Guard stepped in.
Since During his time in the Senate and while running for president, Obama received a total of $77,051 from the oil giant and is the top recipient of BP PAC and individual money over the past 20 years, according to financial disclosure records , I have a hard time believing that the One is now going to stab them in the back. I'm guessing that BP will grab a major stake in taxpayer-subsidized green energy, which is a lot easier, safer, and probably a lot more profitable than drilling thousands of feet into the ocean floor
I hadn’t thought about that, I think that you’re right. It would fit with the Goldman Sachs precedent. BP was already moving toward the “Green Energy” market. I won’t be surprised to see BP claim that the investment in green energy is a form of retribution for the spill.
Remember that the BP public relations guy, Herb Greenberg, that designed the Beyond Petroleum market strategy is closely tied to Rahm Emanuel and is a partner of James Carville and Shrum.
It's worse than either of us knew.
