Here is video of Nebraska Democrat Sen. Ben Nelson admitting he doesnt know if President Obama has the Constitutional Authority to force BP to surrender their stockholders money without due process of law. But, Nelson said, he has the moral authority. When asked if there were any limits to the quagmire of Obama operating on the basis of this moral authority, Nelson said there are limits to any authority, but he would not specify what that limit is.
The U.S. Constitution is exactly the authority devised to limit the power of our President and the other members of our Government. The moral authority must be based on what is allowed under the law, not on the feelings of the moment. We all want the people of the Gulf Region to be compensated for what they have lost, but it makes you wonder what is happening when an elected U.S. does not seem to care whether or not the President has the Constitutional Authority to do what he is doing.

Well, considering Obama made DoD Sec. Gates and Joint Chief of Staff Admiral Mullen swear loyalty to HIM in the White House last year... why would anyone think this man has any respect for our constitution?
Senator Nelson is the reason there is a Tea Party today....Americans are fed up with the dumb, politically correct politician sent to Washington, D.C......Ben Nelson, Senator, and all his colleagues should know and understand the United States Constitution inside and out. Obama has trashed and abused the US Constitution even when he was Senator Obama.....he is a Marxist...Nelson is just clueless.
O had no authority to force anything on BP
He threatened them or made a deal with them.
BP did not have to take the deal, they could have said “see you in court”.
So authority or not, it is irrelevant if BP agreed.
A lot of them know he’s not an American citizen too.
BP was only too happy to give up the job of paying claims.
A pal at the company told me that their offer of a year of income had to substantiated by copies of the last four years of income tax returns (BP would pay the average of the last four years of income.) No one filing a claim was able to do that...
My thoughts exactly. BP is in on the deal, we just don’t know what their plan is. Other than, of course, shafting the stockholders.
That one slipped past me! Obama needs to be impeached, tried for treason and shipped to Gitmo to rot with his muslim buddies.
He doesn’t know? That’s a fine answer, one tantamount to non-denial. He’s left himself quite vulnerable having parsed himself into a legalistic, moralistic corner like that. I would think it would up to BP to fight the administration in court if the President’s diktats have indeed exceeded his authority.
Simply illustrates the sheer idiocy we have today in the Congress and White House......and to think, these idiots severely lambasted the Bush administration for its lack of ability to follow the US Constitution.....=.=
I read or heard that a lot of the businesses seeking relief earned their income “off the books.” Obama needed a way to reward the tax cheats... again.
Maybe we need to enforce the idea that if you take an oath to upohold the constitution that you have to understand it.
WTF, O? Was this reported on? If so, do you have a cite on it? That's absolutely outrageous.
How much did Reid promise Nelson this time?
It’s called confiscation. Authoritarian regimes do it all the time. Things will get worse before they get better.
Meanwhile, the corrupt and dishonest Democratic news media covers for everything this bunch does.
Let me help you out here, Senator:
Amendment V
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
