Activist Group Threatens Lawsuit Unless Happy Meal Toys Banned
Nanny State Liberation Front ^ | June 22, 2010 | NSLF

Taking the Santa Clara County, Calif. Happy Meal toy ban to the national level, a radical consumer activist group is threatening to sue McDonald’s if it continues to include toys in kids meals.

“McDonald’s is the stranger in the playground handing out candy to children,” said Center for Science in the Public Interest’s (CSPI) litigation director Stephen Gardner. “McDonald’s use of toys undercuts parental authority and exploits young children’s developmental immaturity—all this to induce children to prefer foods that may harm their health. It’s a creepy and predatory practice that warrants an injunction.”

Gardner couldn’t be more wrong in his tasteless attempt to equate McDonald’s with pedophiles. There are no “strangers” handing out Happy Meals to kids on the playground or at any McDonald’s franchise across the nation. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and legal guardians are making conscious decisions to purchase Happy Meals for their children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews ...

Man is my son going to be pissed when he finds out there are no more toys in a happy meal. I really don’t think these people know what they are dealing with. We are talking the rath of Kahn, folks, biblical proportions, cats and dogs sleeping together, an end to our world as we have always known it.

Undercuts parental authority?

How?

“Daddy/Mommy I want a happy meal with a toy!”

Parent replies “No.”

Parental authority maintained.

Now I guess if I were a spineless whiney liberal I might need the government to protect me from having to tell my child no. But any actual PARENT, worthy of the name...

Let's get real....Cereals, cracker jacks and just about every other product uses marketing tools....

Those boxes of Wheaties and the Champions have been around how long...

And what about the Oscar Mayer Weiner toy campaign.Same time, different day, different product.

Let people make their own decisions....

Who knew there was a rash of unsupervised 5 year olds driving themselves to the park and accepting Happy Meal toys from Ronald McDonald?

It’s the same group of kids that go to the store and buy extra sugary cereal all on their own.

I can’t tell you how many times i’ve had someone argue with me about banning sugary cereal ads for kids. They look stunned when I would tell them, well.. don’t buy it for them if you don’t want them to eat it.

Back when Junior was little, he wanted the dinosaur toy in a box of Post cereal. I bought the cereal as an occasional treat but when we got home there wasn’t a toy inside. I called Post a dozen times over the course of six months (on principle, ya know) and they promised each time to send the toy but they never did. That was about 15 years ago and I have never bought another Post product and never will.

Leftists really hate successful businesses and will do everything to destroy them. How long before the leftist wackos sue McDonalds for making kids fat?

What I remember best were all those baseball cards from the 40’s and 50’s...that I tossed when I cleaned my room really, really good. I’d be a millionaire today. Ho Hum...

Why doesn’t someone follow these people and go see where they live. Spot everything they do wrong and call them out.

Not only are these parents control freaks, they’re also dumb. McDonald’s sells the apple dipper and grilled chicken salad with low fat vinegarette option at the same price of the hamburger and fries option. Hey, I guess in Obama’s America, you need to make your job seem as relevant as possible or else you’re going to be quickly unemployed.

The “stranger in the playground handing out candy to children” analogy is equally appropo to gubermint handing out goodies to illegal aliens to come here and stay and to Americans who don’t want to work...and even more addictive than McNuggets.
(At least for McNuggets , you have to go get them and pay for them. Gubermint checks just show up in your mail.)

I don’t suppose a parent could just say NO? No wonder we’re the “Party of NO”- we have to explain everything to these stupid freedom-hating adult children.

What part of the Public Interest is served by having tort lawyers on retainer?

Did they ask if I wanted any lawsuits threatened?

The only joy people like these “activists” get out of life is forcing others to do their bidding.
