My 8GB SDHC card recived a small bit of damage on an exposed corner, opposite of the leads. The computer won't read the card so my data is trapped. I have a ton of music on it so I'm anxious to recover my tunes. Any ideas as to how I can recover the data?
Google “sdhc data recovery”
It brings up links to software and services.
Throw the chip in the microwave, set it on high for 3 minutes, and that should reattach the contacts. Your chip should work well after that.
I thought it was 3:30.....damn; explains a lot.
data recovery will probably cost more than the music. I could be wrong but dont expect it to be cheap.
You can remedy that by popping the chip in the freezer right out of the microwave, for a few hours. Then take it out and tap it with a hammer (hard) to bang the bits back into alighment.
Don't be gentle in this step, bits are durable.
...but...but...won’t that convert all the songs to ‘rap’???
I know this doesn’t solve your current problem, but in the future never trust your digital files (whatever they are - music, photos, etc.) to one storage device. Backup, backup, backup, and preferrably in at least two different locations. Then when things like this happen, you just throw the old broken card away because you know you have all the data elsewhere.
It will.
Free your mind, Conservative.
Do you have another card reader? Are you using the one in the PC or laptop? Try a USB mounted card reader.
Word, yo.
That might break the DRM!
Nah, I just have the little net book. I’m deployed so that’s all I have at the moment. I’ll ask around.
Not possible, I have a lot of tunes on that thing. I also have a lot of images from my tour overseas. Damn it, I’m so bummed I did’t back the stuff up.
You jest, but once I was helping someone over the phone with installing a card or something and when it didn’t work for her, I said what I thought was sarcastically , “At this point you need to give it a good hard kick.” Which she did and blew up her computer.
I felt awful.
But only in the hands of a good shot. lol
As to your data problem its toast. Go to limewire. Redownload. Relax. Repeat.
I wouldn’t put it in a microwave. You can probably recover the data but it may be costly. A typical hard drive recovery can run $3000 if the drive is intact.
The one thing to be careful of is not to cause any more damage. Much of the software out there is to recover deleted files and wont address damaged media such as it sounds like you have.
The circuit boards in those cards are very delicate.
Chances are the board is cracked so short of ‘surgery’ you might try putting the card in the reader, plug in into the computer, and gently ‘flex’ it one way or the other and try to get it to read.
If you can get it to read by holding it in one position or another, then click on ‘select all’ ,’copy’, create a new folder on your computer and ‘paste’ the files there..
