Is Kirk trying to be a skunk at the GOP picnic? [DIABLO bashes conservative gubernatorial ticket]

Is Kirk trying to be a skunk at the GOP picnic?

The Illinois Republican statewide slate has been pushing unity and cohesiveness for the last couple of months, and all except for one seems to be getting the script down. Why in the world would GOP U.S. Senate candidate Mark Kirk use a press conference today to antagonize those who could get him downstate votes and bridge the huge chasm between conservative Republicans and liberal Gold Coasters?

Unbelievably in one fell swoop, Kirk blasted his own party's top two ballot names -- first, gubernatorial candidate Bill Brady for being an elected official that did not "find a way to pay taxes" on his taxpayer-funded income. In the midst of a real estate development market that's bottomed out, Brady took legitimate business losses and minimized his tax debt for 2009. But he did make a salary as a state senator, and for that income he should pay taxes, Kirk told a City Room WBEZ reporter:

KIRK: Well, I think that if you depend on a salary paid for by taxpayers, you ought to find a way to pay tax.

Then Kirk went on to reprimand fellow Republican ballot candidate Jason Plummer, who's chosen not to release his 2009 tax return, citing business partnership conflicts.  Plummer, who's running for lieutenant governor with Bill Brady, has ridden out a recent media firestorm surrounding his refusal to share private income information, and Kirk lit it up again today, WBEZ reports:

Meantime, Kirk weighed in on the refusal of Republican lieutenant governor candidate Jason Plummer to make his taxes public. Kirk says all statewide candidates should release their returns.

What's Kirk doing?  Does he think he's winning friends and influencing enemies?  How exactly is this strategy of alienation from fellow ballot candidates supposed to work?

Ah, there goes "loyal Republican" Mark Kirk again, doing the RATs dirty work for them and trashing our conservative nominees.

BTW, there's no logical reason for Kirk to behave this way. It's not as if there's bad blood between Bill Brady and Mark Kirk. In fact, Brady stuck up for Kirk and his military record last week, not that the "mean ol' right-wingers are intolerant of moderates" pro-RINO crowd noticed. Kirk turning around and knifing Brady in the back is reminiscent of Snarlin' Arlen Specter using his re-election to promptly issue a statement warning Bush not to nominate any "right-wing anti-choice candidates" or Specter would Bork 'em. Apparently that was Arlen's way of "thanking" GWB after the President went all out to save Specter's career in the Senate.

Kirk is a combiner who eagerly does the Democrats bidding, plain and simple. The only thing Mark Kirk relishes more than sounding like a good "fairness-obsessed liberal" is beating up on conservatives in his own party. This issue gave him the opportunity to do both.

Maybe he's just frustrated that the "unelectable" Brady/Plummer ticket has consistently been ahead of a sitting RAT Governor by double digits while Kirk struggles against the most crooked RAT on the ballot.

RINOs can be particularly vindictive and spiteful when they don't get their way.

If he were a merely a skunk, that would be an infinite improvement.

Ah, but he's still sooooo much better than Alexi. Here's the latest public appearance by both candidates. You can see the clear differences! ;-)

I'm sorry I will bitch about Kirk tomorrow right now I want to get my pitchfork and torch and march on Miami to Dwayne Wade's "crib".

That dude F'ed me out of probably 30,000 dollars in revenue if LeBron were to come to Chicago.

F D'Wade!

Ok, I take that back I will bitch about Kirk because I'm in a pissed off mood right now, THANKS WADE!

I'm starting to agree with Fieldmarshal and hope that Alexi wins and goes to jail. We'd probably get Lisa Madigan who is better than Kirk, she went after the child pornographers, so that makes her better than her father in my mind

However... If Alexi isn't pardoned by Zero, then Bill Brady could appoint Roskam who is hands down the best person to be Senator in this state, I really can't think of anyone else maybe Rosanna. But yeah, screw Kirk he can go down to south beach with lebron and stay there. He'd fit in perfectly.

Kirk is clearly the rat on the left! The rat on the right isn’t hiding the fact that he wants to kill you.

What a F'ing turd. Bill Brady is winning by 11 points according to Rasmussen who has been spot on in the last two presidential elections.

I still think that Diablo wins by 3 - 5 points just because of the "wonderful" / sarc country club republicans of DuPage and Kane County who enjoy electing liberals who pretend to be republicans.

Bill Brady is a right wing conservative and a hands down good guy, along with Plummer those two can turn this hell hole of a state around.

The more this goes on I'm worried that Kirk will win, and immediately join Charlie Crist and become a democrat. That is my ultimate nightmare.

That would be like LeBron going to heat being nothing.

There is NO reason for any Republican to vote for Kirk. All it will get us is another Susan Collins. Voting for Kirk's openly corrupt opponent Ginnoulias is a better bet. Machine/Obama pick Ginnoulias is SO crooked, even the Democrats will be embarrassed.

You remind me why I’m glad I’m not a sports fan and can remain blissfully free of rage at any sports shenanigans. Between the politics and that, if I were intensely following both, I’d drop dead from an aneurysm.

I agree. If you cared about football you would have plotzed after what happened with the Titans. (We’re a top team, gave away a playoff game, started the next season on a long losing streak).

Until I read this thread it was Wade. Kirk had a long way to go to one up him and he did.

It’s turned to a cold anger now but I was sooooooo pissed at Wade. I couldn’t enjoy watching the World Cup match. Bulls should have bribed a judge to not let his kids leave the state. I’m glad I’m not the only person who loathes Wade now.

Very disappointing, why did he have to tease us with alleged interest?

Wade and Bosh would have been perfect, or Wade and Boozer. Rose, Wade, Deng, Boozer, Noah. That 5 could have won it.

But he wanted to play with James too I guess. Let’s see how a team with 3 stars and no other good players does. I’ll root for anyone against the Heat. Go Bulls. Go Celtics. Go Magic. Go Lakers. I really wanted Phil Jackson to lose to the Bulls in the finals to cap his career rather than get a 6th with LA but now I’ll be rooting for him all the way if he faces the Heat. That guy on ESPN from Miami is insufferable.

At least I wish we had gotten a shooting guard, especially considering we gave Hinrich away. But Johnson and Allen both stayed put.

Someone feels worse at least, Cleveland. Ouch.

And on top if it Peavy got hurt. I think we can handle the loss though. hopefully Daniel Hudson can get the job done.

On a lighter note the Knicks have signed the LeBron James puppet to a max deal. (that would make a perfect story for The Onion).

Well we got someone.

Boozer’s Jazz teammate Kyle Korver. At least he can hit a 3. The word is he’ll be more valuable than Hinrich would have been.

Impy, I am very very optistimic about Daniel Hudson. He was a stud last year and is tearing up the minors. Let's face it Peavy is injury prone we all knew this coming into the season and he was awful from April to June.

I met Peavy in June, very nice guy. But I am glad Hudson is the guy to replace him because even though it's hard to replace a Cy Young Award winner I think this kid Hudson is the real deal.

Also look how good Buehrle, Danks, Floyd and Freddy have been! Minnesota is in complete free fall and I think we can knock off Detroit. Be happy you are a Sox fan today and not a Cub or Cavs fan.

The Bulls will be a good team probably a 3 or 4 seed, I still pick Boston 1, Orlando 2. I'd love to see how three divas share the ball.

But Impy, our Sox are hot, and I think you and I will be occupied in October, sorry Soxtober. This title is up for grabs and pitching wins championships and I am very very proud of our pitching staff. Especially Freddy. He should win comeback player of the year.

I will be in Alaska for the next week so you'll have to keep me in the loop
