Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he relaxes every Saturday by reading the Bible with his 15-year-old son -- who recently won a national Israeli Bible competition and came in third in the international quizzing contest.
Netanyahu revealed this fascinating piece of information near the end of CNN's 'Larry King Live' show in answer to Larry King's question on whether, as Israeli PM, Netanyahu ever gets time to relax. ...

Here’s hoping he reads Isa. 53, Zech. 9 and 14.
The Bible with Old and New Testaments, the Torah (first 5 books of the OT), or the Talmud (not the same thing)?
This is why Hussein makes him leave the WH out the back door and through the garbage.
Avner is the latest in a long family line to win recognition for Bible knowledge. His mother Sarah's three brothers have scored high in previous Bible Quizzes: Amatziah Ben-Artzi finished in second place in the International Youth Bible Quiz; Matanyah Ben-Artzi won the national Bible Quiz at age 10; and Hagi Ben-Artzi won the International Youth Bible Quiz. In addition, the Ben-Artzis’ father, Shmuel, is a veteran Bible teacher in Israel, and wrote a popular Bible Quiz textbook.
The organizers state that the objective of the quiz is to encourage interest and study among youth in the Bible as the cultural basis of the Nation of Israel. Many of the questions in the quiz were based on short videos filmed in the various galleries of the museum.

At one time, it was common in the U.S. to read the entire Bible and have it be a subject in a PUBLIC school to read. The Bible civilized our culture and properly applied Bible wisdom lead this country to greatness. As people mock Him and His Word, our country is becoming more and more like Sodom and Gomorrah.
The news source should have clarified what definition of “Bible” is to the Jews, it is primarily the Old Testament, not any of the New Testament. As for Bebe reading it regularly, that’s news to me. He struck me primarily as a secular Israeli, not really a religious one...although given the rising tides of war, maybe he’s getting religion, real fast.
That will disturb the leftists. Now, had he said he studies the Koran...
You’re wrong about Benjamen. He is a very devout Jew. He is well aware of phophecy.
He is a bright man from a secular perspective.
“Netanyahu has a B.S. degree in architecture (1975) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a master’s degree (1977) from MIT’s Sloan School of Management... His older brother, Yonatan Netanyahu, was killed while leading the Israeli raid on Entebbe Airport in Uganda in 1976.”

“Mr. Netanyahu, who is known throughout Israel as “Bibi,” leads a governing coalition dominated by right-wing and religious parties, but one that also includes the Labor Party, which represents the center-left. Mr. Netanyahu replaced Ehud Olmert, whose centrist Kadima Party leads the opposition.”

When the NYT shuns him, I like him even more!
More analysis of the Bibi v Larry show. There is a link to the transcript in the column, it’s a worthy read if you missed it. Altho, it’s not the same w/o Bibi’s voice:

A common mistake in the news media who are often ignorant of almost all things religious in the last 40 years. As for the “Bible”, a latin-based word meaning book, is not used by any Jewish people I know; and they don’t call it the Old Testament either, they call it the Tanakh, with their primary focus on the main book which they refer to in general as the Torah. And yes, they are referred to as The Scriptures, comprised of three main books, the Torah, the Neviim and the Ketuvim (a combined 39 books). Those are the books that Joshua (Jesus) studied and Mr. Netanyahu and his family I would think. As for the Christian “Bible” containing the original Jewish Scriptures, yes and then some, including the new testament (a term created by Christians, separating the original Hebrew books pre-Jesus, from those written by the apostles and disciples) contains a total of 29 additional books, for a total of 66 books. As for being pejorative, I wasn’t sure that was the case, given my opening comment. But then again, was it not the truth that Mr. Netanyahu would be studying the Tanakh, and not the Bible whose generally understood meaning within the Western world is both the Old and New Testaments?
I’m glad they are reading their Bible, but are they reading for the sake of knowledge and information or to know Yeshua their Messiah? That makes all the difference.
You are incorrect. English speaking Jews indeed refer to the Tenakh as “the Bible.”
“the Torah (first 5 books of the OT)”
In modern English, if one is just referring to the first five books, one says “the Pentateuch”
But he word “Torah” is a tricky one.
It can mean different things in different contexts. In its most limited sense, “Torah” indeed refers to the Five Books of Moses: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy (the Pentateuch).
But the word “torah” can also be used to refer to the entire Jewish bible (the body of scripture known to non-Jews as the Old Testament and to Jews as the Tanakh or Written Torah), or in its broadest sense, to the whole body of Jewish law and teachings (which includes the Talmud and perhaps even the more respected commentary on the same).
Ok; English-speaking Jews; thank you for the clarification that helps solve my incorrectness. Shalom.
Thanks for the elaboration ... with a screen name like “Jewbacca” I figure a 7 foot tall wookie with a yarmulke would know what he is talking about :-)
