Last night, Overland Park called out its bomb squad after an unattended briefcase was found at the big rally for Kris Kobach, who's running for Kansas secretary of state. The featured speaker was Joe Arpaio, the widely known sheriff of Maricopa County, Ariz. Kobach helped write that state's tough new law on illegal immigration.
The two men drew a large crowd of supporters to the Ritz Charles, as well as large of protesters ... It's probably not too surprising that OPPD was quick to react to something like the briefcase. David Klepper says the two sides got along civilly, though.
Arpaio encouraged anyone frightened by the scare to head home. But he said he’s received so many threats over the years he’s learned to shrug them off.
“This happens quite often. I used to have my wife start my car,” he joked. “I feel safe in this town.”

Did Overland Park bring their tank to the Ritz Charles. They are very proud of it. They had it out the 4th in Corporate Woods.
