Oklahoma Narcotics Bureau Claims Sound is Dangerous Drug to Kids
Daily Tech ^ | July 16, 2010 | Jason Mick

Posted on 07/17/2010 11:34:09 AM PDT by decimon

Cocaine, marijuana, tobacco, alcohol -- the usual drugs and their dangers are familiar to most children and parents alike. Is sound an equally dangerous "gateway drug"?

As preposterous as that idea sounds, it's precisely what the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics claims. They are warning parents of a dangerous new drug -- binaural sound.

>

Oklahoma officials are convinced, though, that it's just the latest way for kids to get high. They call it "i-dosing" and claim that "digital dealers" are selling children the aural equivalent of crack in their eyes.

Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs spokesman Mark Woodward comments, "Kids are going to flock to these sites just to see what it is about and it can lead them to other places."

Is this like Kathryn Bigelow’s “Strange Days”, where Ralph Fiennes plays a sleazy ex-cop in a dystopian LA, peddling “wire-tripping” gizmos? That you stick on your head and groove out to someone else’s experiences?

I’m listening to it right now. I’m afraid that you’re going to have to do the drugs FIRST if you’re going to get anything out of it.

Yow! Gates of Hades got real loud and uncomfortable. So much for that.

The Pearl Jam track “Nothing As It Seems” sounds pretty god tho’.

There is solid research to back up such claims.

Loud sound IS ADDICTIVE and has been demonstrated to produce similar

DOPAMINE HIGHS as drugs and other addictions.

—sugar highs
—sex
—runner’s high
—workaholism
—alcoholism

That’s one of the reasons I’m so solidly against church music above 85-90db

There are also sophisticated sound frequency & frequency sequencing techniques that have been proven to be very hypnotic. And once such a ‘connection’ is established, all kinds of powerfully influencing content can be slid in on that hypnotic channel.

People who scoff at such realities are mostly uninformed . . . even grossly ignorant about current state of the ‘art’ stuff . . . I’d say . . . black arts.

Fact.

also, google “Binaural Brainwave Synchronizer” - there used to be one as part of Cool Edit before they were bought out by Adobe.

I know you can go deaf or damamge your hearing by loud “music” or a consistent noise. Maybe it’s similiar to that - consistent noise at cerain pitches? If parents haven’t raised their kids properly, there is not limit to how they will experiment in self destruction. Raising them includes advice on proper friends too!

I had no idea of the addictiveness of loud music until I started researching music volume because of loud music at church.

“I’m curious, which of the two of us is better trained and more experienced at diagnosing clinical paranoia?”

Which of the two of us posted worries about loud sounds then went on to state concerns about:

“—sugar highs
—sex
—runner’s high
—workaholism
—alcoholism”

I only spent 10 years in clinical sciences but my focus was on the biochemistry of inborn errors of metabolism so I make no claim to being a clincal psychologist, but if YOU’RE one...never mind...better left unsaid.

I’m used to personal assaults . . . particularly hereon.

Most folks have not had anything close to my diverse experiences.

Most folks have not had anything close to my fields of intenseive study as hobbies.

And, most folks have not had anywhere near . . . well . . . I’ll stop there.

I will note that

Lots of biases color perceptions wholesale.

And, seemingly almost everyone thinks they are the best psychologist on the planet.

Fears and paranoia are interesting topics.

As are the assumptions about them.

“That must be a fascinating field to work in. Did you get into insulin etc?”

I’m no longer in the field but it was interesting and difficult due to the complexity. It was research at a medical school and involved protein analysis of toxins related to cystic fibrosis.

That was after my stint as a professional musican.

“Most folks have not had anything close to my diverse experiences.”

My wide diversity of educational and life experiences has given me informed viewpoints. If you were as wise as you purport to be I’d think you wouldn’t automatically assume that viewpoints that differ from yours are stereotypical biases.

It didn’t take “robust knowledge” of you to opine that you appeared paranoid when you highjacked a post about loud sounds to voice concerns about half a dozen other things that can either be destructive or harmless, depending on how they’re employed. Whether you’re excessively paranoid or not who knows, but your initial post certainly came across that way...not to mention that your hyper-reaction to a mildly ascerbic response tends to validate that opinion.
