Having worked in Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam and the home of its most extreme form, Wahhabism, I was shocked that a New York City neighborhood community board, in its ignorance, recently voted 29 to 1 to support a request to build a mosque and a Muslim center near Ground Zero.

They built mosques on the sites of thousands of temples throughout India.

The request to build a mosque near the site of the World Trade Center is not accidental. It is astute and deliberate, as is the decision to call the place Cordoba House. Cordoba is city in Spain that resonates mightily in Muslim history. It was the capital of the Islamic empire in Spain. It was the place where Islam established its first caliphate in Europe. The Grand Cordoba Mosque was built where a Visigoth Christian church stood.

A.G. Andrew Cuomo, who is NY's gubernatorial candidate, and NYC Mayor Bloomberg, BOTH want the mosque built. NEW YORK "leaders" wanting the mosque built - how disgusting.

Republican gubernatorial candidates Lazio and Paladino are both against building the mosque. Hopefully NYC and NYS voters will come to their senses and support candidates who put the interests of NYers before the interests of terrorists.

I agree with this author. The mosque symbolizes the destruction of a Western symbol, and the triumph of Islam. The building of the mosque is calculated, and I’m absolutely positive that muslims get the point, even if other Americans do not. It’s an insult to the people who died, and an insult to all of us. These stupid people who think they have to make nicey with muslims and do everything muslims want are merely being nearsighted and weak.
