If You Thought Health Care Was Expensive Before, Just Wait Until Democrats Get Done With It

Many of us know that the health care law forced upon us was only the beginning of the battle toward full government control of health care. Harry Reid once again provides confirmation :

"We're going to have a public option," Reid said. "It's just a question of when."

Let's fast forward to the future of the US health care system. Here are my predictions for the Obamacare of tomorrow:

* Restrictions on some of the most basic and common operations, including hip and knee replacements, cataract surgery and orthodontic procedures.

* Plans to cut hundreds of thousands of dollars from budgets for the terminally ill, with dying cancer patients to be told to manage their own symptoms if their condition worsens at evenings or weekends.

* The closure of nursing homes for the elderly.

* A reduction in acute hospital beds, including those for the mentally ill, with targets to discourage GPs from sending patients to hospitals and reduce the number of people using accident and emergency departments.

* Tighter rationing of funding for IVF treatment, and for surgery for obesity.

* Thousands of job losses at public health system hospitals, including 500 staff to go at a trust where cancer patients recently suffered delays in diagnosis and treatment because of staff shortages.

* Cost-cutting programs in pediatric and maternity services, care of the elderly and services that provide breaks to long-term carers.

I am entirely confident in these predictions. And how is it I can be so confident?

Easy. It's already happening.

Meanwhile the British Healthcare system is going in reverse. I saw a story where they are going to privatise part of it.

Personally, I consider them “crimes against Humanity” and they should be viewed as such.

Already received word from my insurance company that effective 1/1/11 consumers may no longer pay for over the counter medications with their HSA/HFA/FSA savings accounts. OTC meds must have a prescription to be eligible.

I would add that the politically connected will be serviced first ahead of everyone else.

Example: Ted Kennedy at Duke

The younger voters might not mind anything listed there, really.

They’ll be conditioned to view granny as little more than a burden on society anyway.

The politicians will tell them she is the reason their own care sucks.

How will the tort lawyers do under Obamacare? If a patient dies or has very poor results from a doctor adhering to Obamacare protocols could they still be sued for malpractice or will patients like in the UK just begrudgingly accept this standard of care?

My understanding is that although Obamacare will mandate some of the doctors’ decisions and practices, that control will not free them from the danger of lawsuits. The doctors will still have to fork out $100,000+ per year for their medical malpractice insurance.

If I were a doctor, and had enough money saved up, I would retire early.

The plan from the start was to have a public option. All of the other stuff was only a means to that end. When the price of health care is forced to exclude everyone, the Public Option will be the only thing left for us. The exception being those in Congress, the President and aids.
A Republican Congress after November will bring this to an end.
