In the end the Liberal side will not have the brains, stomach or heart to continue the fight. Their unconditional surrender will be the final nail in the coffin of Socialism/Statism in America.

You may be right about the outcome of the fight itself, if there is one, but I think you're wrong about the death of socialism and statism. They're just symptoms that spring inevitably from certain weaknesses in human nature. That's why the Founding Fathers tried to build so many obstacles to them. It was a danger they saw repeated throughout history. A CWII wouldn't alter human nature.

Take her on a trip through the southern tier of NY state. Some nice country here, reliably red, but outvoted by the urbs.

If taxes are a concern, be a snowbird.

Hm. Wishful thinking, for the most part. The political circumstances leading up to the supposed war are never actually mentioned -- and it's not clear what sort of political issues would result in a civil war. That's a pretty critical oversight.

An economic collapse could, conceivably, lead to a civil war, though a civil war is not inevitable, nor even a very likely result of that collapse. Riots would make sense, but not war. Were it to happen, however, it probably would create the sort of sides that Mr. Bracken suggests.

There is some merit to the general idea that a war might have a distinct ethnic/socioeconomic cast, but the details are what matter, and they're not spelled out. What's important there, however, is the concentration of populations. If one side is defined by poor/color, those people will be concentrated in urban areas.

As usual, the actual contours of such a war would be defined by logistics; in particular, food, water, resources, and manufacturing capabilities.

Manufacturing is in urban areas; but the people who would be fighting on the poor/color side would not be employed in those industries, and the infrastructure that feeds them would break down in any case. The ability to wage war would be limited to supplies on hand. Urban areas would quickly be starved out due to the disruption of food and water supplies.

The idea of government control is glossed over -- but the implication that it would support the poor/color side is not remotely convincing.

The real response of government and, more importantly, the military, would be driven by the circumstances of how this supposed war breaks out. If it were to happen at all, it would almost certainly begin in the form of riots on the poor/color side of the equation; and in that case, the government (including the military infrastructure) would come down against the poor/color side.

But really, it's not a convincing scenario in the first place.

In the end the Liberal side will not have the brains, stomach or heart to continue the fight.... [you] I’m guessing that this parallels the thinking of the Roman leadership, and population - the day before the Vandals came knocking at the gates....

Actually, it is almost exactly what the Confederate leaders thought about the North's ability to fight a war. And look how that turned out for them.

The Liberal side will mostly be caught ill-prepared arming themselves at random (quality and no experience issues), likely fight impulsively as random gangs (no formal training in organizing and tactics), and fight for their own personal short-term gain at the end of each battle (hamper their Statist leaders' goals) In the end the Liberal side will not have the brains, stomach or heart to continue the fight.

You forget that they have a globe full of supporters who want to see the fall of the US, if only just to see it, and maybe shake up the World Order. Once things get rolling, 1-2 million Mexicans start taking over New Mexico, Arizona, Southern California, southern Colorado, and even Western Texas (despite the common Texans' confidence to the contrary). Then Chavez, Putin, Castro (Raul, not Fidel), start sending trained and seasoned men, along with materiel... and foodstuffs from their slave-wage farmers. Kim Jong Il sends men in exchange for foodstuffs for NK. China plays the "mature" card, and happily watches as most of the West eats itself (Europe, without the US military presence stabilizing it, then has its own wars coming within a decade... with Muslim wildcards making things really interesting.)

For those experienced hunters with scoped armss at home who wouldn't mind expressing their intense anger at the decades-long Progressive Movement by applying Rule 308, I merely repeat the adage: beware of what you ask for... you just might get it.

This is why they will bring in foreign troops. We are in for a very, long hard slog.

Depends on who gets the big firecracker's. Do you see any foreign troops wanting to run into North Korea? They have what 3-5 low yield nukes with no reliable delivery system and that is enough to kowtow the world. Montana has over a hundred LGM-30s that can put a 1.5 MT can of whoop ass any place in the world in 30 minutes or your money back. A few of those or a Trident Boat fall into rebel hands and there will be a lot of talk, but no foreign troops.

“they would have trouble recruiting and controlling military or police personnel to commit atrocities on the scale needed to cow the population”

Thus Obama’s civilian defense force. Same size and budget of the real military.

We can’t let it get to that point.

The primary problem is that there will not be front lines. The enemy will be mixed among us, and in many cases be indistinguishable from us.

This is why they will bring in foriegn troops. We are in for a very, long hard slog.

=

As the "Enemy of the State" these two items combined will make the insurgencies in Iraq & Afghanistan look like cub scouts, especially when you factor in the mass defections and/or sit-out of many LEO and military members, the "oath keepers" if you will.

"Inviting" foreign/UN troops to quell the American People would be an open declaration of war on the American People. Very few countries would likely participate, and those that did would make the declaration too obvious for our own military to tolerate.

For the Minuteman’s or the Tridents...don’t they require launch/activation codes that REQUIRE a code sent from Washington/Pentagon/Strike Command to enable the warheads?

If ‘rebels’ get a hold of these missiles, without the launch/enable codes, wouldn’t they then be rendered a moot point?

I was under the impression codes were needed to arm that aren't present at the weapon location. Perhaps there's even codes capable of activating a range safety charge or igniting the propellant in place.

Actually, it's not a redundancy but being specific. It eliminates hittable alligators, wombats, water buffalo, platypi, trees, the crack in the couch...

Unfortunately, I can easily see that – the neoProgressive socialists have taught people they are entitled to the earnings and property of others – and if things break down, they will start alookin for the next handout.

...and as Tijeras Slim pointed out, I omitted all of those who work for the government who will side with the non-payers.

We are perilously close to societal breakdown - I fear.

Invest in precious metal; gold, silver and brass.

DO NOT go to Northern Idaho. Especially Coeur d’Alene. There are no firearms dealers, no wild game, no freshwater lakes and no one has the means to defend themselves here...

Too right. I drove through there yesterday on my way up to Sandpoint and I was lucky to get out of the ghetto alive. When TSHTF it's gonna be the RealTree People versus the Mossy Oak Gang and you wouldn't want to be in the middle. It'll make the carnage at the Cabelas sale displays last Christmas week look like a tea party by comparison.

On a serious note, for those who don't already live in relatively secure territory, have a plan. Do your networking. Have a place to go and get out in time to get there. If there's one commonality in all the civil war scenarios all over the planet it's that you do not want to wind up in a refugee camp.

if push comes to shove, i expect to see MANY bridges coming down, like ALL of the ones going into/out of, DC, NYC, Boston, SanFran, Detroit, Chicago, etc to try and keep the rabble in the cities or at least make it as hard as possible for them to get out...
