In today's volunteer military, young people choose on their own to join and many choose to fight. Some even sign up for a second and third tour or maybe even a career in the military. I don't think it is a stretch to assume that in a mandatory military, some young people would still choose to fight, or at least train to fight if it becomes necessary.
It is admirable that you want to hold the parents of these kids responsible for their failures. I tend to think the parents will not take any more responsibility than they did while the kids were young. Just maybe a drill sergeant or service organization CEO would be able to make something of them.
I don't think the draft was Marxism and I don't think requiring kids to do some service is Marxism. I am not proposing we create Obama's "service corps(e)". I am talking about a period of discipline and personal responsibility for every young person. Some will come out better young adults. Some will come out not much better than they went in.
Okay since you seem to have some idea of the military and military history what say you to this: if the draft was brought back it would be a dis-service to the country, not just for the other reasons I mentioned like coercion and too many young idiots joining, but also the fact that the anti-war movement which always sets back our victories in wartime would just grow stronger. I mean that's what killed us in Vietnam. Now a days esp. since N0bama was elected you only see 1000 ppl tops at an anti-war demostration. If everyone believed their kid was going to be drafted you'd be seeing an entire city out there protesting and dissing the troops. Then they'd also have a real excuse since they could say (as many did during Vietnam) most of these young ppl are being forced to serve and probly die. They didnt choose to serve. That way of thinking will make most Americans even more opposed to military action necessary for our national security. What do you think?
