There's a new argument emerging among supporters of the Ground Zero mosque. Distressed by President Obama's waffling on the issue, they're calling on former President George W. Bush to announce his support for the project, because in this case Bush understands better than Obama the connection between the war on terror and the larger question of America's relationship with Islam. It's an extraordinary change of position for commentators who long argued that Bush had done grievous harm to America's image in the Muslim world and that Obama represented a fresh start for the United States. Nevertheless, they are now seeing a different side of the former president.

What’s it going to be, dignity and honor or strokes by the enemy? A monument to the terrorists should not be built there.
If W’s smart, he’ll let Obama and the Dems continue to twist in the wind on this one. It shows just how alienated they are from the rest of America.
Keep your mouth shut, (and Laura’s, too)!
That they would even consider coming to Dubya for help is only an expression of their total DESPERATION!!!
Oh, THAT works...
What really surprised me is that the super egotists/goofballs Carter/Clinton haven’t come out with something.
It would be in character for the both GW and GHW to stay quiet. The last time GHWB commented on something it was an NRA ad and he really made himself look stupid. I believe he learned his lesson from that!
It’s not the mosque-supporters who want this. It’s the Obama supporters who have seen Obama stick his foot in his mouth on this matter and now want Bush to make a statement to make foot-in-mouth disease a “bipartisan” malady.
Exactly! Don’t take the bait George! Just keep going to Rangers’ games and keep your mouth shut.
How pathetic. Having condemned the Bush Administration for years, they now want Bush to bail out their hero. Meanwhile, Nancy Pelosi wants to investigate the opposition to the mosque. In fact, it’s beyond pathetic.
I’m surprised Bush has not come to B.O’s defense. Bush might as well have been a Democrat the way he managed in his last term.
Bush himself has declined to comment on the mosque affair.
To the extent that GWB believed Muslims desire the same kind of freedom we Americans cherish, he was deceived. Sharia and freedom are antithetical.
>> I bet he will do it.
Philosophically, I bet W IS okay with the mosque. He always was a proponent of that “Islam isn’t the problem” BS. (Even though it’s been proven time and again that Islam is EXACTLY the problem.)
I just hope he’ll see it for what it is, and say no.
It’s nothing but a shameless attempt to use him when it’s convenient, never mind that the ‘Rats slander and blame him for EVERYTHING all the REST of the time.
I just watched “Return of the Jedi” last weekend! I must have fallen under some subliminal messaging! LOL
Stuck on stupid is no way to go through life ....
The quote I posted from Karl Rove is a little closer to what Bush is thinking
I wouldn’t be surprised if he did it. After all, he spent the last decade telling us that Islam is a “religion of peace,” holding hands with the Saudi despot, and playing kissy-face with that old terrorist Abu Mazen.
LOL! Now they want Bush the "moron" to save Obama the "genius." It doesn't get any better than this. Leave it to the "intelligentsia" to be so incredibly stupid.
