Parents, take heed! If your son or daughter is into the dopey Goth thing, a vampire enthusiast or Evanescence fan, they will be unable to run for public office as conservatives when they grow up.
Delaware senate nominee, Christine O'Donnell offered her self up as the pinata on an old Bill Mahr show and confessed to having dabbled around with witchcraft in high school.
Although the GOP establishment went into hysterics, O'Donnell's approval rating with teenage girls shot up immediately following the revelation. Stevie Nicks has not yet commented.
While you must discourage your kids from going Goth, they can, however, embrace Marxism, as did O'Donnell's opponent. Going Marxist opens many doors, including the one to the White House.
We were’nt called goth in those days but I suppose we were in our own way. (minus the nail polish, make up and hair dye)
No problem here. The day my son comes home with an earing, colored hair, or painted fingernails will be the day he leaves for military school. Society has rules and norms and if you are going to be successful, unless you are a rock star, you are going to have to comply. The free expression excuse to letting your kid be a weirdo is a bunch of BS.
Christie O’Donnell is about the same age as the writers at SNL when they did the Azrael Goth skit about a decade ago.

She’s only 3 years younger than me. The Goth thing of the 90s would have been laughed out of existence by the “goth” of my day 10 years earlier. It wasn’t remotely like what the SNL skit shows.

80s Goth is much different than the Goth of today.
I was never goth, but I must admit back in the day there were some goth chicks I knew were kinda hot. Of course I couldn’t get anywhere with them unless I looked like Robert Smith. ;)
The goth of our day was more of a heavy metal thing. Lots of black clothes and black leather without the emotional we’re all gonna die crap.
IMHO, THe SNL writers from 10 years ago have the same opinion of 90’s goths as you.... they are your age,.. and they were mostly thespian geeks in high school... aka... friends of 1980’s goths. That skit I posted is a serious dig on neogoth crapfest that passes as a subculture in american high schools.
Maybe the Heavy Metal thing came more later in the 80s, back then it was all about Bauhaus and The Cure.
I grew up in the country and we were listening to Ozzy Osbourne, Ronnie Dio, Nugent, etc.
Disco came to my town and fled in fear for its life.
Goth is fine if you’re a Democrat. Its the goths who jump ship who have to be brought down.

Calling it BS is very insulting. I’v been in the scene my entire life, and we take what we do very seriously. We are different because we don’t conform to society’s norms, indeed, society teaches greed, judgementalism, and that you are a freak if you don’t “conform”. Many Goths have a passion for the past, for history, victorianism, among other things, and just because we don’t all wear polo shirts and blue jeans does not make us any less worthy of respect than you.
Society is plagued with so many evils that are considered normal (drugs, promiscuity, greed, racism, hate, just to name a few) and yes, many of us try to be different. I’m glad to be different, different in my clothing and my way of living which lets other people be who they want to be. Waht is BS about that? Today society accepts most anything as normal. I find beauty in the past, in history and in victorianism, I am a victorian Goth. Sorry if that bothers you. I would not trade it for being a conformist.
Goths do not start wars, and we do not address others with hate because they are different. I’ve seen 60 year old men who dress in rocker Goth fashion and we let them be who they want to be. Would you? Or would you condemn them as immature and childish? It’s the loss of child like innocense that makes people become so judgemental.
Goth is clothing and and appearance. So sad that society is threatened by that. I like being a Goth, and I would never change it to conform to society. I am neither depressed nor angry, and I dont self harm or worship evil. I run a home and kids and make a living. I’m no worse than you.
Before so many judge as evil, maybe they should learn more about us.
I invite you to dismount from your high horse, MissGinnae. The Goth scene has been around for decades. I hung out with them in the eighties. It’s all about conformity to an in-group, don’t fool yourself.
Want to be a nonconformist? Dress like the people you reject.
