The Unraveling Of ObamaCare
IBD Editorials ^ | October 8, 2010 | Investors Business Daily staff

Regulation: Thirty companies and organizations get waivers from the new health care overhaul because otherwise they'd have to raise rates or drop coverage. The president said neither would happen. Hey, where's our waiver?

When McDonald's told federal regulators in a recent memo that it would be "economically prohibitive" for its insurance carrier to continue to cover its 30,000 hourly workers unless it received a waiver from the ObamaCare requirement that 80% of premiums for such minimed plans be spent on medical care, alarm bells went off in the White House.

Suddenly the "affordable health care for Americans" that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke of when she passed a bill no one had read was revealed to be an unaffordable fraud that threatened to throw untold numbers of young workers into the ranks of the uninsured in an already precarious election year.

So now McDonald's has its waiver, for 115,000 workers, not just 30,000. Jack in the Box also has a waiver, as do 28 other companies and organizations. The largest waiver, for 351,000 people, is for, appropriately enough, a union — specifically the United Federation of Teachers Welfare Fund, a New York brotherhood that covers teachers.

The United Agricultural Benefit Trust, a California-based cooperative that provides such low-cost minimal coverage to farmworkers, was allowed to exempt 17,347 workers. Even what has been dubbed RomneyCare gets a waiver, with Massachusetts' universal health coverage bureaucracy getting an exemption for about 5,000 people.

Would I be incorrect in asking why the “equal protection” clause would not apply to those not given a waiver?

What really ticks me off about ObamaCare is that the lowlife bass turds who demanded it be passed (union scum) are now demanding that they be exempted from the damage it is going to cause to Americans’ healthcare. Somebody needs to go to jail.

The less insurance the better. Any coverage more than catastrophic coverage is a major source of our problems. Slowly but surely, employers are eliminating the old-fashiioned Cadillac policies, so there is some progress. If we can get insurance companies and the government (Medicare, Medicaid) out of health care, health care costs will become manageable again.

These are fraudulent exemptions which will be reneged on as soon as the real plan goes into effect.

They just don’t want bad news right now. Wait. This will be rescinded in a couple of years.

Somebody needs to go to jail.

About 435 congrescritters, 100 senators and at least two in the executive department. After the scotus speaks I'll let you know about the other 9.

The list begins. Those not on the list are on the other list...the Cattle-Car list.

Americans need to demand that if we are going to have to suffer the destruction of Obamacare, the unions should also be forced to share in the misery and destruction. After all, the unions are the commie piggies who demanded that Obamacare be passed.

Well, I just read where the “teachers’” union is now demanding to be exempt. They were some of the biggest whiners that it be passed.

Where is our exemption from this law. Are not our 14th amendment guarantees of equal abuse under the law being violated?

Of course you cannot ask such a question!

The damn law says something like 100 times “the Secretary shall decide” or “the Secretary shall make the rule” — there is no equal rights under the law anymore. It is all payment to government-favored groups. “A nation of laws, not men”?? Ha! That is such a joke.

We have only to look at affirmative action to know the answer to that question. Regulatory favoritism isn't even as PC as that, and has been around longer.

All as designed. If you want to stay in business, you will have to get on the obamanation’s good side. It’s called fascism. See Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged, for a description. Or Nazi Germany and the USSR.

That's in the Constitution, right? How quaint. Here's a little hat with a propeller on it; don't say we never gave you anything.

Soon the only people not exempt from Obamacare will be non-union, straight, white males ... and each one will have their own personal IRS agent assigned to them to make sure they pay up.
