This is also the reason that Americans are mainly coffee drinkers, and not tea drinkers, like the British.

As someone that dabbles in political philosophy and history, it is maddening to see how the term, liberal, has come to mean the opposite of what it originally meant. Liberals are not liberals by traditional usage of the term. Liberals today are really socialists and collectivists. They are the antithesis of liberalism. Conservatives are the true liberals as the term was originally used, but everything seems to have gotten turned upside down. Liberals today remind me more of the Nazis than the Communists. If I were to put a list of political characteristics of modern liberals and Nazi political characteristics, you would find about a 90 percent agreement. Nothing surprises me when it comes to liberals. The revision of history is only one characteristic among others.

The historian Jacques Barzun called it the Great Switch, the reversal of liberalism into its opposite. I highly recommend his From Dawn to Decadence, a history of our present Western civilization.

Quality rivtes have nothing to do with it. The iceberg Shaved them off AND put a hole in the hull at the same time. Either way it went down.
