Spineless Washington Post Caves to Fear of Islam's Thuggery

The deranged bending-over-backward by business and other leaders in the West to avoid offending the Islamists has gotten to the point of ridiculousness. The latest example of bowing to the intimidation of Islamic goons is by the Washington Post, which, Sunday before last, on October 3rd, decided not to run a daily cartoon because it contained the name Muhammad--no picture, mind you--just the name.

It was Wiley Miller's "Non Sequitur" cartoon. The cartoon in question is a single-panel that shows a park scene with all sorts people engaged in various activities like feeding birds, flying a kite, sailing a remote-controlled toy boat, bicycling and some whimsical stuff, too, like a giraffe eating an ice cream cone and a dog walking his master. At the top is the caption, "Picture book title voted least likely to ever find a publisher..." and at the bottom is the title, "Where's Muhammad?"—apparently a take-off on the "Where's Waldo" children's picture books.

According to the Post's ombudsman, Andrew Alexander,

"'Non Sequitur' is a popular comic that runs daily in about 800 newspapers, including this one. But the 'Non Sequitur' cartoon that appeared in last Sunday's Post was not the one creator Wiley Miller drew for that day.

Editors at The Post and many other papers pulled the cartoon and replaced it with one that had appeared previously. They were concerned it might offend and provoke some Post readers, especially Muslims."

So, here we go again, afraid of offending the Islamists! When are people going to open their eyes and realize that this kind of stupid appeasement only strengthens the resolve of the Islamists and encourages more of their juvenile intimidation of us? And it will not make them like or respect us—they never will, no matter what we do! In fact, it certainly has the opposite effect. When we give in and kiss every Muslim rear-end presented to us, we are only perceived by them as weak and weaker!

Robert Spencer, reporting this story on his website JihadWatch.org wrote,

"If any person or group is considered off-limits for critical examination and even ridicule, that person or group has been given a privileged position in society, and has a free hand to do what it wishes. That's why the freedom of speech is an indispensable bulwark against tyranny: it prevents authoritarian rulers from arrogating to themselves and exercising unfettered power.

And in this case, it rewards violent intimidation."

After mentioning that the Washington Post had published two pieces in the past week which defamed him, Mr. Spencer points out,

"It is also virtually indisputable that the Post would never hesitate to run an item that might offend Christians, and would have been the first to start talking about the freedom of speech if those Christians complained. So why is the Post so solicitous of Muslims? Why the double standard? Because they know that when I get offended, no one gets killed, and when Christians get offended, no one gets killed, but when Muslims are offended, people die.

And so the Post's ombudsman, in calling the Post 'too timid' for not running this cartoon, was drastically understating the case. The Post wasn't just 'too timid.' The Post was and is inexcusably prostrate before a group of violent and irrational thugs. And thus the freedom of speech continues to erode, to the detriment of everyone who wishes to live in freedom."

I agree with Mr. Spencer. Of course no one likes death threats, but at what point do we realize we're being held hostage by fear of these Islamists who threaten to blow people up if we offend their goofy sensibilities? Remember that snake, Feisal Rauf, the cad behind the proposed Ground Zero mosque, saying that if they now move the mosque to another location, it will put America's national security at risk. Why? Because the Muslim throwbacks will throw a fit—maybe even do a little killing! There it is again—more attempted Muslim intimidation! They can't win the West over by persuasion to embrace their twisted ideology, so they will try to strong-arm us into cowering as they steadily march their Shariah law into our country.

It's time to stand up to these schoolyard bully punks. We can't live forever bowing in fear, lest we offend the Muslim world. Draw a cartoon, merely threaten to burn a Koran, or point out the fact that Muhammad was a murdering pedophile, and deadly riots erupt in the Middle East? So be it. Let them knock themselves out with their ignorant mania; we should stand firm on our principles of freedom, without fear or apology. Don't reward the Muslim temper tantrums! The message needs to be sent to the Islamists that America will not bow to their hissy fits, and if their tantrums turn deadly for any of us, we should unleash on them the full fury of which our armed forces are capable.

We should send a clear message to the Islamists that they can either man-up and grow some thicker skin in the face of perceived offense to their backward ideology, or they can stick it in their pipe and smoke it, because we're not backing down!

WaPo has a point. Muslims have a free hand to kill you if you can’t randomly kill them back. So you can’t afford to offend them, just convert or die.

I thought it was the religion of peace!!

It's not even a religion, let alone one of peace. When you devote one entire element of your holy book telling you that it's your duty to kill all non-Muslims (i.e., The Book of Swords), it's a cult...a warrior code...pure and simple.

These bigots will censor ANY Christian expression anywhere!

They will print ANYTHING offensive to Christian, while hiding behind the 1st Amendment.

Yet, they cave to EVERY Muslim whimper!

"I can’t find him."

You're not supposed to, Muzzies don't like to show themselves until they are ready to blow up innocent people.

I wonder if WAPO fear the Left as much as Islam - could explain why MSM is on the Left.

It will be interesting to watch the clash of Islam meets American Left. That will just about when Islam conquers England and leftist are taken to the gates of the city and stoned to death, public lashings, beheadings, and abject chaos as the England devolves to the seventh century.

I wonder when their tolerance / acceptance will finally end.
