They are pushing a rail system here from an industrial part of Ann Arbor to Whitmore Lake to Howell. Why? Few go to that part of Ann Arbor since Pfizer left. It’s not downtown. No offense to Howell or Whitmore Lake, but outside of the lake, who visits those places that isn’t working or visiting friends or family?
Response: The fact that the "train" is not needed or useless is not relevant. It is wealth redistribution that is the point.
Detroit is a dismal, crappy, rundown city... no doubt about it.
Attracting private sector investors to rehab their city for them is damn near impossible under any set of forseeable circumstances.
In the mean time, they have to do whatever they can to rehab the crappy slums themselves.
If building a light rail along Woodward helps provide urban developers a corridor to coordinate their meager private urban investment, then good for Detroit. The entire city is a vast wasteland. Woodward would be a good spot to clear the rubble for redevelopment. At least the right-of-way acquisition will be dirt cheap. LOL!
By all means raise the taxes locally to pay for it.
That should help attract “investment”.
