Emily Y. posted earlier today about an incident that happened at Yale on Wednesday night: A group of members and pledges of the frat Delta Kappa Epsilon were heard around campus yelling chants like, "My name is Jack, I'm a necrophiliac, I f*** dead women, and fill them with my semen." Emily asked, "Where are the adults here? Why hasn't the administration already taken action?" and she called for DKE's suspension.
These men should be punished, but banning DKE won't solve the problem. The problem is pandemic across many groups on campus. The chant is actually a typical rally cry for another frat and for the men's rugby team. These events aren't isolated. Yale needs cultural change, and banning a fraternity without much more discussion won't help.
In the past, Yale has set a precedent for trying to cover up the real issues at hand by attempting to settle issues quickly and quietly, without making a fuss. Three years ago, men in Zeta Psi stood in front of the Yale Women's Center and posed for photographs with a sign that said "We Love Yale Sluts." When Yale didn't react, the Women's Center threatened to sue the frat. Yale discouraged them from suing and the frat went by unpunished.
At the beginning of last year, a group of upperclassmen sent around an e-mail that soon found its way into the inboxes of most Yale students. It was called a "Pre-Season Scouting Report," and it ranked freshmen girls' attractiveness based on how many beers it would take to have sex with them. Yale did nothing other than issue a statement saying this was not OK.

Why should they be punished for excercising free speech? Isnt that the whole point of college? Wasnt it these college egg-heads who said we must defend speech we disagree with?
And how in the world would the “women’s” group sue another group for holding up a sign? What legal grounds could they have possibly had?

I am a Sigma Chi myself. And needless to say, we took no part in such awful, disgusting behavior when I was in college some 30+ years ago. Said Barnacle Bill the Sailor.
Glad to hear that - I’m Sigma Chi also and we never, ever participated in any childish stunts. But if you give me a cold beer (which we NEVER had at the frat house)I might be able to think up a few things. I vaguely recall sending pledges down the hill tied to laZBoys with wheels. And something about putting a hose in the fron window of the Kappa Sig house...
I think 18 to 21 year old women can handle themselves without bringing in some ‘Women’s Center’ group - usually a large collection of elite liberal men haters...
I say place them on Double Secret Probation.

I am struggling to think what they would be suing over here. What damage was caused to anyone by this incident?
He, too, never tasted alcohol whilst in college. But, he insists on teaching his grandsons bawdy fraternity drinking songs. I'll need to speak with him about that.

Because the name has not evolved along with the behavior. "Slut" is so yesterday, the same as queer and gay, and the Constitution and the Bible. Those were the days when there were moral restrictions on ones actions. Today's yutes must be free of those restraints.
Of course, as our youths go so goes the future society. That has been the plan of the Marxists for years, to destroy our culture so as to dominate us. They recognized early on that our moral culture and Christian values were the biggest obstacles to their conquest. Using Hollywood, the media, progressive politicians and the natural hormonal rage of young people they have brought us to where we are.
Who delivered corpse to the medical school dinner? Who put fizzies in the swimming pools?

Listen to what they are chanting. I suspect that even their defenders will have difficulty defending this.
