Alexi Giannoulias: The Would-Be King

Listening to the debate for Illinois Senator last night, it was difficult to pick out who was worse to listen to speak. Mark Kirk played the professional politician and tap-danced around simple, direct questions, and Alexi Giannoulias came off as an economic illiterate, and a flat out buffoon on every other issue. I don't particularly like either of these guys, but have enjoyed the fact that Kirk has turned into something of a fiscal hawk over the past couple years, so have been leaning his way in any case, and one statement by Alexi last night finally sealed the deal. It seems Alexi Giannoulias considers the role of Senator to be something more akin to being a king.

The Dems talk about how stupid Sharon Angle or Christie O’Donnell are, but for a glimpse at real stupidity they need to check out this uber-lightweight Giannoulias. The guy absolutely had his rear end handed to him in the Meet the Press debate with Kirk. He looked like a deer in the headlights the whole time. I didn’t see last night’s debate but it sounds like he was just as big a moron and clueless. In the Meet the Press debate, when asked about his bank’s loans to mob figures and whether he was aware of the criminal dealings of these applicants, he lamely replied “We didn’t know the full extent of their activities” as if a little criminality was acceptable. If this guy were this big of a dimwit and a Republican, the national media would long ago have turned him into a national joke like they’ve attempted to do with O’Donnell who can at least speak intelligently on the constitution, unlike Chris Coons who just stuttered and stammered trying to speak on it. But since he’s a Democrat, he’s given a pass for his all too obvious caveman-ism.
