Norah Grossly Understates NPR's Fed Funding
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 10/22/2010 7:22:27 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Trying to downplay calls--in reaction to the Juan Williams firing fiasco--for the federal defunding of NPR as mere right-wing electoral politics and "cable catnip," Norah O'Donnell has grossly understated the proportion of its budget that NPR obtains from the feds.

Aided and abetted by Chuck Todd, Norah offered her misleading math on today's Daily Rundown on MSNBC. O'Donnell claimed that only 1-3% of NPR's budget is derived from federal funding. But as you'll see, the real number is at least double that.

Remember that in some cities there are local and state funds for NPR and PBS stations. They also get grants and stuff. The real number is probably closer to a fifth.

Norah’s new math grossly understates NPR’s fed funding. Ping to Today show list.

O'Donnell claimed that only 1-3% of NPR's budget is derived from federal funding.

Well, then it won't hurt if the funding is cut off.

Let the ax fall.

Ok, so she’s making the case for defunding them, since it’s such a small percentage.....

Mike Emanuel on Fox repeated the same liberal spin on yesterday’s Special Report.

Yes, but doesn’t the Gov’t fed the Corporation for Public Broadcasting at 100%??

And the CPB also distributes funds to NPR, no?

The key should be to eliminate the CPB (and the National Endowment for the Arts also)

If NPR’s funding from the government is so small of a % of it's operating budget, then they shouldn't have any problem getting by without the government check.

Also, add that they pay no taxes and I would think donations are exempt.

We need to get government out of the media—COMPLETELY! It is a brainwashing tool for their vile Cultural Marxist agenda. It is destroying the morals and families of this nation...intentionally. We have to end the government brainwashing. They twist the TRUTH. The truth never needs government subsidies. They want to destroy the natural family to make us dependent on mommy government. We are committing suicide by allowing government to brainwash us not only in our MEDIA but our children in “govment” schools.

Good, then they (NPR AND their parent company AND affiliates) will not miss the money. Awesome - thanks Norah!

No one should be surprised Norah is misunderestimating or lying. She is mainstream media. It is what they do.

I am being restrained.

Even if the stupid brainwashed DemboSlut were telling the truth this time, than it would still be 1 to 3 percent that should not be given to such a fascist Leftist propaganda group.

3%??

I understood it to be much higher than that.

Because of the way they launder money through their affiliates which are government supported and through "franchise" fees, I would put it at 20-30%.

According to NPR's own pie chart, it's zero.
