Audio: CBS reporters plot hit piece on GOP candidate Tape reveals news team scheming to find 'child molester' supporting politician Joe Miller Reporters from a CBS affiliate in Anchorage, Alaska, allegedly left a voicemail by mistake at the campaign of the state's Republican nominee for Senate, Joe Miller, in which the journalists can be heard plotting to "find" a "child molester" among the politician's supporters.
The reporters are also overheard hoping for violence against Miller so they can "send out a tweet" and Facebook alert that "Miller got punched" at a rally he held four days ago. The apparent accidental voicemail message was left on the cell phone of Miller's spokesperson, Randy DeSoto. In the recording, the assignment editor for the CBS Anchorage affiliate, KTVA, Nick McDermott, along with other reporters, can be heard openly discussing concocting the two stories about Miller. DeSoto says the voicemail message was later authenticated by McDermott himself, who sent a text to the Miller spokesman stating, "D--- iPhone I left you a long message. I thought I hung up. Sorry." "Frankly, when I first heard this I was shocked," said DeSoto. "Though a bit garbled at times, there are disturbing comments in this conservation that never should have occurred."
According to the Miller campaign, another voice in the message was that of KTVA's news director. A recording of the audio can be heard below: (Story continues below)
In the first portion of the discussion, the CBS reporters are heard plotting to get a list of Miller campaign supporters in order to "find" a "child molester." "You have to find that one person," says the male reporter,

CBS...Corrupt Bastard Syndrome.
Happy Halloween
CBS is so Dan Rathered washed up.
Isn’t there a code of ethics that they have broken working for
a political candidate instead of reporting the news?
And they STILL want us to think of them as unbiased.
We always knew this was going on but to hear them so blatantly and openly guffawing and scheming about it is shocking. There’s zero objectivity. There’s an effort to actually harm the conservative candidate in the worst way possible.
I’ve actually worked in the Alaska media. Granted, I quit in the middle 1990s, but I was there.
Let me be blunt. There were some newsrooms where I worked that never, ever participated in hit pieces and smear jobs. However, there were some of my colleagues who were outspoken advocates, who gleefully destroyed careers and reputations, and who had political agendas. I have sat in rooms with people like the ones on the recording. I know from the words and tone in the recording that their goal was to smear Joe Miller.
Which, by the way, is what you can always expect in a free society. Not everyone with a bully pulpit will be ethical. The response of free people is to aggressively go after those doing the smear, in public, in print, on video, and online, and do so until the people responsible are named and can respond. The readers - the citizens - can make up their minds after reading and seeing who says what and why.
A few words about Channel 11, whose reporters were recorded. This is the “second” station in Anchorage, running behind the Channel 2 news powerhouse. They’ve been trying for years to break into the top, and failing. The other news station, Channel 13, is a third-rate nothing which has genially conceded themselves to reality and consolidated their newsroom into one statewide entity for the Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau stations, which allows them to rip and read newspaper stories and save money on staff and video.
Miller is probably smart enough to use this story to portray himself as the noble victim of media excess, a theme that works well up here. I hope his staff is looking for some kind of connection to the Channel 11 staff and Lisa Murkowski (R-Sore Loser).
By the way, most of the people I worked for were really good folks, but the advocate journalists coming out of the colleges were changing the complexion of the newsroom by the time I took my leave.
I’m also going to use this recording with my high school journalism class this week and use it as a vehicle for a little discussion on ethics. Never let a crisis go to waste, as they say.
You presume that they value ethical behavior - or even understand the concept.
Think how bad NBC must be.
Send this audio file to Drudge, Rush, Hannity, Malkin, Savage, et al. This must be talked about tomorrow.
Alaska Freepers should send it viral to their friends in Alaska.
Well, now the MSM will lose more and more ratings. Note my tagline.
I checked the Alaska newspapers online and every TV/Cable News Network and no one was carrying it but FOX News. Go figure.
This could determine the winner for the US Senate from Alaska
(and Republican/Democrat control of the Senate.)

I’m thinking this should be worth 3 more percentage points for Joe. Whatcha think? Anybody?
I will laugh if I hear the locals in Anchorage storm the station and have a sit in.
