"I think those votes will be valid, his name was on the list."

I can't cite the source, but there was a reference on FR that an Alaskan official had determined that write-ins for Miller would not be counted since he was on the printed ballot. Also, there was a determination that any approximate spelling of Murkowski would be counted as long as the intent of the voter was clear. It sounds like everything possible is being done to favor Murkowski. If someone has specific sources that corroborate these decisions, please post them. Thanks.

This race is over. Joe Miller did not carry his own district. It is best for Alaska if Joe throws in the towel and we can move on. It is best for Sarah too, the longer this drags on the worse she will look. The author of the article does not understand Alaska and is not thinking what is best for the state. Joe's web page puts up the 5-6% number which the divisions of elections can not verify and when asked his folks can not verify. Perhaps he came up with the number on his lunch hour yesterday.

Alaska Statute:

AS 15.25.105. Write-in Candidates.

(a) If a candidate does not appear on the primary election ballot or is not successful in advancing to the general election and wishes to be a candidate in the general election, the candidate may file as a write-in candidate. Votes for a write-in candidate may not be counted unless that candidate has filed a letter of intent with the director stating

It will be fun to watch Murks make the argument that a write-in vote for “Leesa Murcowleselli” was clearly meant for her, but a write-in vote for “Joe Miller” was not intended for Republican candidate Joe Miller. Of course, courts make ridiculous rulings all the time so it won’t surprise me.

I agree and would go over further than that - I think if you loose in a primary and you have been rejected by voters that you claim to want to represent that you should not be allowed to run as an independent, write in or the opposite party. If you lost then you lost fair and square - deal with it! Let’s have honest elections not BS like what happened in Alaska or Florida. Murkowski and Christ essentially cheated the electoral system because they could.

The question is did Joe Miller file a write-in intent letter with the State? If not it matters not what the intent of the voter was as the state has a specific law regarding write-in candidates. See #25 above for the link to the Statute.

I still think there will be a good percentage of Alaskan voters that thought they can vote for miller by writing in his name.

Thus lowering the amount of votes that are for Lisa Murkowski, or other candidates.

Gotta keep in mind, a lot of people were brainwashed into believing Joe Miller was the spawn of Satan and they have just voted for Mickey Mouse.

I think the final tabulation will have Lisa maybe near 1000 votes shy of Millers, its always a nailbiter up here.

I completely agree!!! You can tell those two just want to stay in power at any cost, they don’t give a rats pa-toot about the voters or the country, it’s all about them.

I can’t believe that many voters were capable of writing in someone’s name. It was just 10 years ago that they were unable to put a hole in the ballot (hanging chad) but now they can spell and write names.

How can a “write in” candidate have their name on the ballot?

I agree it maybe close when they get to the actual opening of the write-in ballots. All kinds of things can go wrong in marking one such that it won’t count. We know the actual count for Miller via the actual ballot [not write-in] so that number is solid. There’s about 14,000 vote difference between his solid number and the write-in tally. Anything that tosses those write-in ballots be it for another candidate or an error in writing will favor Miller.

Wish I could believe that were true. I don’t think Joe will come out on top of this. Even if the absentee ballots come out in his favor and even if the write in is “murky” enough he will have to confront the Alaska kangaroo courts and the DC slimes shilling for lisa. As far as AK republicans contribution to his loss, I would say it was the game winner for lisa. She could not have won apart from the Rydell type republicans cheering non stop for her. That is why I am going to drop my party membership here and go independent if she wins. Lisa has done us a service. She has called out the murkowski “republicans” so that they can no longer hide under their phony conservative costume. The irony is in our supposed RED state the republicans have moved to the left while in the lower 48 the republicans moved further to the right. Kind of tells me a lot about what it means to be a republican in Alaska.

I dislike her more than I would if she were a Pelosi-clone Democrat. She takes the entitlement mentality right down to her own personal pocketbook.

I guess we’ve learned that calling women the “b-word” is not a classy thing to do, so I’ll leave it at that.

“She really makes me sick. What is more concerning is that so many Alaskans chose to vote for her after the way she has acted.”

Agreed, but you have to admire M’Cows chutzpah. If half the GOP or Tea party candidates had her gonads, just think what could be accomplished in restoring conservative principals to the nation. Just a shame she is a Rino.
