Last night on the “Tonight Show”, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger responded to host Jay Leno’s question about the failure of Proposition 19, a measure on the California ballot to legalize the recreational use of marijuana. Schwarzenegger responded that the measure failed in part, because he had already decriminalized the use of less than 1 oz of pot, and also because, “No one cares if you smoke a joint.”

Just over a month ago I was nearly deliberately run over by a carload of reeking paranoid potheads.

So, +1 to your excellent comment.

If no one cares then why is it still against the law? It is still a crime to sell it. At least someone who smokes is an accessory to a crime.

Put aside the arguments about legalizing it, this caviler attitude from a Governor about breaking the law is appalling.

Or the person in the apt next door.
Funny how CA nearly has public executions for cigarette smokers and now thinks smoking pot anywhere is just fine.

Perhaps that explains the way he has been governing all these years.

Let's not forget the banning of the Happy Meal toys, too.

Whenever I see some high pot-smoker weaving down the road I feel like pulling up next to him and throwing a beer bottle at his windshield. Pees me off.

YOU ARE RIGHT! That was my first thought, too. LA freeways are dangerous ENOUGH already! We have lived there four times and the traffic is the most horrible thing about that state, no one knows how to drive, they are all in a hurry, all on their cell phones, no one is paying attention, they don’t need stoned drivers added to the mess. Smoking pot also makes you sleepy and I have heard lately on the news that sleepy drivers are more dangerous than drunk drivers.

We were at Hollywood Bowl for Santana Concert a few years ago and people were openly smoking pot, it was still very illegal at that time. No one cared. Yet when someone lit up a cigarette everyone freaked out and made them go to a special area for smoking. Pot smoke, they didn’t care about. About 2001 or 2002.

We were assaulted in our home by a “friend” who made himself paranoid over many years by smoking pot.

So put me down as one who cares if you smoke a joint, as well.

Must’ve been rolling a J and steering with his knees.

Usually weaving down the road is performed by juicers.

I think they can by default de-criminalize it by just setting it very low priority for enforcement

Just tell all officers not to arrest anyone for it

I DO NOT SMOKE (I have to drug test for work and I dont have a problem with that- i dont drink either because I dont have the time)

But I am in favor of legalization. I used to smke AND drink and from experience I think pot has less damaging effects, and some health benefits.

the same way alcohol has some health benefits in moderation (red wine for your heart, etc)
