This New York Times report was brought to my attention via The Blaze. It’s one of those under-reported stories that definitely should garner more attention. Be warned, the material within the video is pretty graphic.
The Blaze writes:

Incredible!!! The two men quoted - the son said his mother didn’t have ANY PROBLEMS - couldn’t figure out why she would do such a thing and the doctor said it’s only a problem of economics!!
What chance do any of these women have with this attitude of males in their society? The same attitude that are causing the women such desperation.
There must be knives available - why such a drastic attempt??? Total blackout on this in our media....

I’m a tad disturbed that the news is brought by website called “The Blaze”. LOL
From what I have heard and read, unconsciousness sets in pretty quickly so that it’s probably not as painful as it appears (not that I would want to test the theory).
It is certainly a spectacular way to die. I would imagine that it is very traumatic for younger family members.

Depends on what you mean by "pretty quickly". I understand it takes the better part of a minute. But you may not even lose consciousness if you don't use enough gas, or someone puts the fire out quickly.
Hold your hand in a gas stove flame (not above it -- in it). A second will suffice.

This is so horribly sad. Any culture that subjugates its women to the point where they set themselves on fire is unworthy of being called "human".
