Google Veterans Day Controversy: American Flag, Islamic Crescent Moon Doodle Sparks Internet Outrage
Associated Content ^ | November 11, 2010 | William Browning

Motifs of the American flag have become a regular addition to Google's artistic repertoire celebrating patriotic holidays but today's Veterans Day doodle has sparked a measure of controversy.

In the past Google personified its doodle with red, white and blue letters but the addition of an Islamic crescent moon-looking "e" has all the Internet abuzz.

Tweets via Twitter have included a broad range of hostile opinions about 'Old Glory' appearing with the shadow of a stylized Islamic crescent moon--especially on Veterans Day. The Google doodle is definitely stirring up fears of fanning the flames of anti-Islamic sentiments in America. Was that what Google intended?

Reactions on Twitter have ranged from shock to disappointment at Google's choice of doodle designs for Veterans Day.

LaughTech on Twitter enlarged the logo and set its caption as "Google says, 'Happy Veterans Day, Islam'".

AdrianTweeting makes a similar observation: "The Veterans Day Google logo kind of makes the "e" on the end look like a sinister Islamic crescent lurking behind the flag. Unfortunate.

This is absurd. That is the ‘e’ in Google that is partly obscured by the flag and cloud image; the ‘l’ in google is fully obscured. This is a non-issue.

But!

Notice the American Flag flies over and above the imagined crescent.

This issue is an excellent social engineering metric. I can instantly deduce the level of vague, diffuse, sub-threshold panic latent within various demographics of our society by gauging the squawking we see. This shite is better than sending out night reconnaissance units. We gotta stop being dumb enough to lose this conflict.

I now use yippy.com as my search engine. It is the first fully functional virtual computer. They protect our privacy and respect the laws and principles that made our country great.

Idiots who watch TV helped elect Obama and keep him in power. This is anyone who watches TV and ALL of TV including Price Al Waleed’s Fox which is only marginally better than the others.

I prefer to see an American flag enveloping a crecent moon. But realistically it is just an "e".

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

Sometimes and “e” is just an “e”

When did we become so sensitive that we attribute “evil” intentions when none was intended.

When I saw the Goggle logo today all I saw was they finally decided to honor and American Holiday.

Are we going to become like those on the left and search for slights when none exist.

As someone else posted, if you are not comfortable with Goggles political bent, use a different search engine.

Looks to me like the US of A is “smothering” islam if anything.

That is of course, if I’m looking to make a controversy out of this.

Bing’s is better...
