Mystery missile launch': Chinese missile test or airline contrail?

Hosted by imgur.comA report posted today at a CNN website claims the "mystery missile launch" on Monday was actually a Chinese missile test. According to the report:

China flexed its military muscle Monday evening in the skies west of Los Angeles when a Chinese Navy Jin class ballistic missile nuclear submarine, deployed secretly from its underground home base on the south coast of Hainan island, launched an intercontinental ballistic missile from international waters off the southern California coast. WMR’s intelligence sources in Asia, including Japan, say the belief by the military commands in Asia and the intelligence services is that the Chinese decided to demonstrate to the United States its capabilities on the eve of the G-20 Summit in Seoul and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Tokyo, where President Obama is scheduled to attend during his ten-day trip to Asia.

However, the report - placed on CNN's user-generated iReport site - has yet to be vetted or confirmed by CNN, and is full of un-named, unquoted sources. The only link provided goes to a site with basically the same report - again, with no corroboration.

The source of the report is one Wayne Madsen, who once claimed Wikileaks was a CIA operation, and that Al-Qaeda was a front for the military-industrial complex.

No other news organization is reporting the incident as part of a Chinese missile test at this time.

A much less sinister explanation is provided by a site called "Contrail Science".

According to a report at that site, the CBS camera crew probably captured Flight AWE808 from Hawaii to Phoenix, and the perspective of the the viewer made the contrail appear to be a ballistic missile being launched, possibly, from a submarine.

The site reports a very similar incident:

An interesting contrail cropped up off the coast of San Clemente, Orange County, California on December 31st 2009. The curious shape led.......

Its possible to get past SOSUS, if they have inside information, they have the expertise to cloak a sub with “biologicals” noise, in effect make it sound like a whale.

SOSUS has been typically deployed at geographic "chokepoints," such as in the Greenland-Iceland-UK gap in the Atlantic. The Pacific Ocean has far fewer geographic gaps, and therefore much more challenging to deploy. That said, I would suspect that near major submarine bases, such as San Diego and Bremmerton, Washington, some type of surveillence is in place.

Given that this launch was closer to LA (I believe), there may be fewer options.

Furthermore, it's not likely a submarine could "cloak" itself with biological noise. The loudest machinery would still be detectable, and its signal-to-noise ratio would still be present. If a sub needed that much biological noise, you could track the bio-noise alone! If the sub were quiet, you wouldn't waste time cloaking it, you'd just transit at your quietest speed and be done with it.

To the point about a quick and decisive response by us--maybe, maybe not. If a foreign sub did get that close, and then shot off a missile, that would be considered incredibly embarrassing for us. As long as there was no imminent threat to the United States, why bring further attention to it? It's quite possible that if there were a US sub in the area, it may have been tasked to track the invading sub to learn more about it.

In fact, it's quite possible that if we knew about a planned launch, we may have allowed it, just so we could monitor it.

Once in range of cell towers, the Carnival passengers were able to use their cellphones, therefor no EMP.

Let us think about this VERY seriously, what if indeed?

Russia calls up NORAD, “We have this problem with satellite, you help?”

Navy has a sub in the area, aircraft carriers ALWAYS have subs nearby, sub launches rocket to take out a decaying orbital platform.

Its probably the best theory so far IMHO.

I have yet to see more than a second or two of video on this thing. Where’s the raw video from the news chopper? Let’s see that then decide.

So, the Chinese can't hack DIP to render it impotent?

All goes back to my previous statement, the simplest explanation is usually correct. The Chinese pulling off this big stunt, hacking the NSA, maneuvering a billion dollar sub, launching a million dollar missile........ or... a bunch of folks confused by the perspective of one video..

hmmmmmm...

you mean to tell me that there is there not one single RADAR track of this thing, civilian or military, on the whole west coast that would say if this thing was traveling at altitude horizontally, OR... traveling VERTICALLY???

Today, DIP (Defense Imagery Program) could show you a sardine swimming in those waters if you wanted.

But, are our surveillance services continuously monitoring every cubic inch of our territorial waters? Dunno.

Do our foreign adversaries have stealth capabilities sufficient enough to creep that close to our shores unnoticed and undetected? Dunno.

Could our surveillance services have been fully apprised and aware of this sub, and not set off the alarm bells while they watched it, for strategic reasons? Dunno.

Could our military services be so degraded that this incursion into our territorial waters happened without us even knowing about it, until the big "Uh-Oh"? Dunno.

I really want to believe that there's nothing to this story, but there are just too many things about it that add up, and too many that don't. As I said before - Dunno.

Thank you for that timeline, my resources are not so good, the EMP theory was just grabbing at straws.

They were in 1970 with pocket calculator technology.

Russians have done it, Japanese have done it.

The Monterey Bay has canyons so deep a sub could hide there for a year and go undetected. Julie Packard founder of the Monterey Bay Fish Prison and the underwriter of the Monterey Bay Sanctuary for Julie and off limits for everyone else, wouldn’t let any Navy vessels in capable of looking for submarines.

Nor is it ok to fly military planes over the stolen waters called ‘sanctuary’.

So you have no idea, because the government supports people like Julie Packard who don’t respect our national sovereignty.

Well, I'm glad at least that much is settled with you, at least.

Of course, it's probably only natural that there will be a schism in the 'Chinese Missile' crowd where one segment believes that it WAS an EMP and another one that you're in says 'No, it wasn't'.

You're on your own for that one.

As long as I have your attention on this... Has anyone come up with a convincing answer why the only people on the planet that still seem to be talking about this 'Chinese Missile' are the ones still irrationally clinging to this impossible theory?

Where's the newly elected Tea Party candidates who've just won their races? Why aren't they demanding answers on behalf of patriotic Americans tired of Obama's lies? Which of our newly entrusted Tea Party pals is leading the charge for answers on this 'Chinese Missile'? Surely they're not part of the orchestrated cOnSPirAcy too, are they?
