Democrat Heath Shuler has declared that he will indeed challenge out-going Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi for Minority Speaker. Pelosi, who is blamed in part for the Democrats' massive election loss last Tuesday, has repeatedly said that she has the support of Democrats. Shuler clearly disagrees.
In his decision to run, Shuler stated:
"We've just come off the largest ... loss for the Democratic Party in almost a century. And to be able to put Speaker Pelosi as minority leader is truly ... unacceptable for our party."
Whether Shuler will be able to win is up for speculation. Pelosi, in power for years, is unlikely to relinquish her power to a challenger. Likewise, she is sure to get many votes from people who have worked with her over the years.
On the other side are angry Democrats demoralized after her, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's, and President Obama's leadership led the Democratic Party to electoral ruin last week. These Democrats surely want to hold on to their jobs, and Pelosi leading their party in the House has not worked (for them).

Shuler will be as successful as he was in the NFL.
He’s a snowball trying to be elected the leader of hell.
There is no “Minority Speaker”.
He ought to lead the remaining Blue Dogs in a party switch. Doing so will effectively leave the Dems out of power in the House for 30 years.
They don’t have to like her to fear her...
And isn’t it “Minority Leader”, not “Minority Speaker”?
Let Shuler have at it, the more chaos and disruption among the Rat ranks, the better.
You know there is something terribly wrong with the Rats for being able to stand Pelosi in the first place. The woman is everything that is bad and corrupt about politics, and that makes her the ideal leader of the Democratic Party. Unless someone even more vile and evil comes along, the Rats are likely to keep following her.
He knows he can't win. I wonder if he's looking for a dramatic way to exit the party that will impress the folks back home.

Damn straight. There is, however, a Minority Listener.
The most effective thing he can do is to switch parties ...he runs like an 90% ACU candidate every year...the guy is disingenuous. Just cross the aisle bozo.
Besides, there is no such position as “Minority Speaker”. There is only one speaker, and that is for the entire house. Then there are the two positions of “Majority Leader” and “Minority Leader”. Shuler may challenge Pelosi for Minority Leader, but probably won’t win.
After he is smacked down by the looney libs which make up most of the Rat causus; he and what is left of the Blue Dogs will switch to the GOP.
Richard Shelby is one of the top ten earmark/porkers. He is fighting to keep earmarks in place.
