Looks good! A common discussion point with my neighbors. I just hope it doesn’t devolve into a lame religious-themed movie like “2012 Doomsday.”

And “One Second After”, but with an EMP from a celestial flare, rather than nukes from an enemy.

The trailer might be the best part of the movie. I watched the “clip” on their website called Morris’s Basement. Morris, the evil bad guy of the movie, is a veteran who is a “prepper” or survivalist. He is armed to the teeth and has food for years, so naturally, he is the bad guy. Smells like a PC tilt to me, but we’ll see.

This sounds almost exactly like the online novel “Lights Out” by HalfFast on the AR15 group. I hope he made some money off this. Excalibur = Silver Hills, Art=”Karate Man” Turner, Morris=John, out of town thugs = Davis ranch, gamma ray star = EMP nukes.

Looks great to me! Thanks for posting the link!

The NC State University cap on the woman in the control room piqued my interest so I was watching closely for NC-related things. Then I saw the sign for Trawick Road, which is about an hour from me in Raleigh, NC.

I looked at the homepage of the site after seeing the trailer. This is being filmed in Raleigh and I had not even heard about it!

I can’t wait to see this. Thanks again!

Authorities describe recent cosmic activity from a type of super-dense star that has released a burst of gamma rays. This massive electromagnetic storm is heading toward Earth...

Well, that's where it falls flat on its face, isn't it? You cannot know about "a burst of gamma rays" until it's actually here (i.e., no warning). That's the nature of electromagnetic radiation and what allows us to look into the past by looking at galaxies far, far away...

Thanks for the ping!

I found this thread, and a poster claiming to be the writer of Remnants says that the movie is intended to be a metaphor for what is happening in America today. About how the people who produce and invent have the results of their success taken from them by force.

Well you are assuming this movie is based on current technology...what if they had invented a detection technology at the time of this movie :)

Moltke is correct -- EM from cataclysmic events like supernova (which produce objects like neutron stars, pulsars, etc.) would propagate through the void at light speed, meaning you would have no way of having any sort of advance warning. It would be on you and that's when you'd know. Even if you had outposts that could broadcast a warning via laser beam, it could only follow behind the EM wave.

This fact alone makes this an interesting sort of threat. That, and the fact that a supernova cooking off within 20-30 light-years away from us does have the potential to cook us pretty good, as in extinct. And like I said, there's absolutely nothing to do for it.

So I think I'll just go and have a beer... $:-)

I wonder what he is cajoling them about. Is their lawn untidy?

Based on what I saw at the site, this looks like this was produced using the Canon 5D digital SLR and the Adobe editing/post tools. Things have come so far in that realm that fantastic looking motion pictures can be produced with those tools for a fraction of the costs associated with film. I hope it does well. The story looks interesting.
