RNC Chairman Candidate Favors Net Neutrality
Capitol Confidential ^ | 11/28/2010 | Bruce Walker

Saul Anuzis has announced he's running for chairmanship of the Republican National Committee. The former chairman of the Michigan Republican Party pits himself against sitting RNC Chairman Michael Steele.

Anuzis garnered respect in the state for employing strategies resulting in recent Republican takeovers of the governorship, state House of Representatives and Michigan Supreme Court, expanding the party's majority in the state Senate and increasing the GOP congressional delegation by two seats.

As a staunch advocate for net neutrality, however, Anuzis rows against the tide established by the majority of his party. (It should be noted that on Nov. 2, all 95 Democrats who signed a pledge supporting net neutrality lost their respective elections throughout the country.)

Anyone who is in favor of the erosion of freedom of speech cannot be trusted.

I’m all for replacing Michael Steele, but ONLY if we can get someone better. Not sure this guy is better.

Saul Anuzis is a big Newt Gingrich fan. He once said that if he had his way he would appoint Newt Gingrich as president.

He also worked for Newt's 527 group, American Solutions, in 2009.

Saul Anuzis Joins American Solutions' Team

BC, FYI. The Beltway GOP really wants Steele gone.

You may be confusing net neutrality with the fairness doctrine. Net neutrality is targeted at carriers (Verizon, AT&T, Comcast, etc.), saying they have to treat all content neutrally. They can't discriminate based on content, so they can't discriminate based on the political leaning of that content. The fairness doctrine would be targeted at content producers (web sites), forcing them to make content adhere to some political spread.

An RNC chairman should be in favor of contracts (i.e. the contract that "internet service" means service to the sites the customer wants, not the ones chosen by the ISP in backroom deals -- i.e. net neutrality).

Sounds like this guy should replace Steele as of yesterday.

Thanks, Al. I didn’t like Anuzis before you told me that. (I thought he was a Romneybot, though) Hopefully this new revelation will sink him.

“BC, FYI. The Beltway GOP really wants Steele gone.”

*****************************************************

Which is precisely why I favor Steele. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

I consider the RNC, at its very best, to be inconsequential for conservatives. At its worst, it is an obstruction as it was for Reagan in 1976 and 1980. I prefer it to be neutral or neutered so as not to interfere with my candidate. Steele should stay where he is IMHO. Unless there is a overtly Palinista candidate.

Anuzis has a reputation as a RINO. Would rather stick with Steele, despite his flaws. You don't fire the coach after a winning season, even if the coach didn't contribute all that much to the success.

If they'd just bring in better financial management at the RNC, enough to get the balking donors back, then I'd be for keeping Steele.
