But mental illness is societally defined. One culture's "delusions" is another's "visions". One culture's "conversion disorder" is another's "Pauline conversion". One culture's "demonic possssion" is another's "schizophrenia". Et cetera.
In any case, though I am not a mental health professional, I think that the dimensional approach that is in favor among many is setting us backward in understanding.

"Instead of the old ten personality types, DSM-V has simplified the system by cutting them down to just five: Antisocial/Psychopathic, Avoidant, Borderline, Obsessive-Compulsive, and Schizotypal types. Each type comes with a narrative paragraph description." From
Here. How they can leave out Paranoid, Histrionic, NPD and Dependent is beyond me. Also, Passive-aggressive is very common.
Also, from the article, "First, the definition of what a personality disorder is, in general, has changed. The proposed revision suggests that instead of a pervasive pattern of thinking/emotionality/behaving, a personality disorder reflects "adaptive failure" involving: "Impaired sense of self-identity" or "Failure to develop effective interpersonal functioning".
Can't have failure now can we. .

My ex-wife was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder...part of the spectrum of narcissism ...and trust me....narcissism is real ...
there was a move by M. Scott Peck (of Road Less Traveled) to add “malignant narcissistic personality disorder” (basically evil) to the DSM....and now they drop the whole disorder??? Very suspicious...

Id love to see Liberalism in there. I was thinking the same thing.
It would be a mis-guided perception of one's own intellect- especially as it pertains to others in the room.
Characterized by a tilted-back-head, and down-the-nose delivery to those perceived to be 'beneath' you. (see Charles Gibson interview with Sarah Palin)
Classical among statists and, especially among those holding conversations with invisible aquaintences on street corners, while often standing near a well-used shopping cart (see Katie Couric 2012 after collapse of NBC).

Yes, very. From the WH or researchers vs. clinicians? To have it disappear is just impossible imho. It's like saying pneumonia doesn't exist now, just move along. . Something more than meets the eye here. . .

I don’t think my friend with a clinically diagnosed narcissist for a son is going to agree with this change.

After taking an internal census and finding that all shrinks are narcissists they decided to de-list it as a mental illness. The conference chairman said that “it’s not true” when asked if they had really considered dropping ‘denial’ as a marker for neurotic disorders in general.

Liberalism in adults: Adaptive failure ; unable to process fear in a mature manner, leading to the need to control others; masked by grandiose sense of self, leading to the exhibition of an air of elitism~

I was looking at the list and was wondering what is borderline disorder. One is just touching the border but not over the line? I get like that when dealing w/liberals.

I get like that when dealing w/liberals.Borderline is a separate disorder in the old DSM but falls under, if I remember correctly, somatic disorders including narcissism and histrionic personality disorder...the spectrum from least to most debilitating are phallic narcissism, NPD, borderline, paranoid personality disorder, and pathological personality disorder....

Thanks. Sound more serious than the name. I guess I’m safe and by 2012 I will be totally well. ;)
