Isn’t it about time for the fans at some High School to mob the field and tar & feather a ref that does this kind of crap? Anyone offended by it should stay the hell away and any ref that decides such a “display” is worthy of a flag should never referee another game. After the tar & feathers, of course.

JMHO

Regards

If drawing attention to ones self is the criteria then what about the running back that scores after a long run, solely! What about the return man scoring after a 100 yard return! BS!!!!

colbrese@wiaa.com

Mike Colbrese executive director washington Interscholastic activities association.

This is the gentleman that is in-charge of the refs and is sticking up for their conduct.

This is Political Correctness and is simply in appropriate.

I wrote him and politely told him so.

... who plays high school football in Spokane, Oregon, ...

For the geographically challenged Spokane, Tumwater and Seattle are all in Washington state, not Oregon.

Absolutely ridiculous. I’d penalize the kid too. It’s still a hotdog move on the kid’s part, just as prancing across the goal line like a little ballerina or swinging a pretend bat after a sack. If you want to thank God or Allah or the freakin’ Devil, do it on your own time. How about handing the ball to the ref and going back to your bench and then thank God while you’re drinking your Gatorade? Why does it have to be on display in the field of play in front of everybody? God can wait 30 seconds for you to get to your bench. Heck, he’ll even wait until your tucking yourself in at bedtime.

Players do it to call attention to themselves, period. “Look at me! I’m thanking God because I am a wonderful guy!”

Dirty little secret here... God didn’t enable this kid to score a touchdown anymore than he disabled the other kid causing him to miss the tackle allowing the winning touchdown. God doesn’t play favorites. If anything he should be pointing toward the other team’s bench and praising the kid that missed the tackle and thanking him.

Your post is fraudulent. Your link that claims to be the video is actually a link to your blog. I clicked on the link that says “Video” and was directed to a shady site.

I officiate high school football, and from what I saw, that may be a little borderline, but I'm not flagging that. If it is me, I walk over to the player, tell him to knock it off, and not do that. Tell him to go do it on the sidelines.

However, this is only one snippet of the game. If there had been any shenanigans going on earlier in the game, or something that needed to be nipped in the bud, maybe it was worthy of a flag. Maybe the team got talked to previously about showboating. I saw the game was a blowout. If the team is up that big, and the kid does that, I might throw the flag too.

By the rulebook, I think that could be construed as a penalty.

From my HS rulebook handily at my desk: Unsportsman like conduct....Any delayed, excessive or prolonged act by which a player attempts to focus attention upon himself.

There is rule book officiating, and preventive officiating. Sometimes you look the other way, sometimes you have to bring the hammer depending on the situation.
