Krauthammer on Fox...
Fox News.

Posted on 12/07/2010 4:18:53 PM PST by Mountain Mary

Is anyone else confused by Krauthammer's comments on the Grapevine panel today saying that Obama is on his game and that the extension of unemployment benefits stimulates the economy? He called the plan another stimulus as it puts almost a trillion dollars back into circulation and will be good for the economy. WTH????? Fred Barnes countered and disagreed strongly, saying that benefits going to employers would be better. I don't get Kraut sometimes. He's very unpredictable.

Maybe he needs to see a shrink or something.

Charles is a classic neocon—not so much a small-government, free-marketer type.

Of course it stimulates the economy. I didn’t see the segment, and I don’t support the policy, but factually what he said is accurate.

Krauthammer is a blueblood, not a conservative. Only the bluebloods like this compromise.

But defending it with the “unemployment is stimulus” argument is strange. Maybe it’s all he’s got to defend it. And it’s BS.

unemployment benefits.. what benefits? After the 13 weeks covered by normal unemployment insurance it is simple charity with the gun pointed at the givers...AKA welfare.

...puts almost a trillion dollars back into circulation...

*BACK* into circulation? The money never existed in the first place for crying out loud! They're printing it hand over fist, and their constituency pi**es it away as fast as they get it.

I took his comments to be facetious. Later he made a reference to Americans having 9 billion dollars of Chinese money to spend. It was pretty obvious that he was being flippant. Some times I think you have to take Charles with a grain of salt.

Yeah, suppose he was being sarcastic, touting the bennies of the plan for Dems. The comments were strange, however, and he didn’t rise to the level of Rush’s sardonic wit.

How much longer are the people who have work going to subsidize the people who don’t want to work?

Basically Charles was pissed about the deal, and said Ohaha pulled off a 900B stimulus without calling it a stimulus, because the repubs were rolled. He made several references to the fact that this 900B is chinese money and while it would provide some economic stimulus, it was wrong.

Kraut jumped the shark long ago. He’s no conservative, yet another elite, cocktail-party RINO. He is likely echoing the establishment GOP talking points.

Krauthammer is generally considered a conservative; he has also been called a neoconservative. However, on domestic issues, Krauthammer is a supporter of legalized abortion; an opponent of the death penalty; an intelligent design critic and an advocate for the scientific consensus on evolution, calling the religion-science controversy a "false conflict;" a supporter of embryonic stem cell research using embryos discarded by fertility clinics with restrictions in its applications; and a longtime advocate of radically higher energy taxes to induce conservation. Meg Greenfield, editorial page editor for The Washington Post who edited Krauthammer's columns for 15 years, called his weekly column "independent and hard to peg politically. It's a very tough column. There's no 'trendy' in it. You never know what is going to happen next." In 1978, Krauthammer quit medical practice to direct planning in psychiatric research for the Jimmy Carter administration, and began contributing to The New Republic magazine. During the presidential campaign of 1980, Krauthammer served as a speech writer to Vice President Walter Mondale. In January 1981, Krauthammer began his journalistic career, joining The New Republic as a writer and editor. His New Republic writings won the 1984 "National Magazine Award for Essays and Criticism." In 1983, he began writing essays for Time magazine. In 1985, he began a weekly column for the Washington Post for which he won the 1987 Pulitzer Prize for commentary. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Krauthammer
