If it is a digital artifact or an ice crystal, no biggie. If it’s a real image of a real multi-kilometer long object moving toward us at a fraction of the speed of light and it changes course AT ALL, we’ll finally know that we’re not alone.
In that case, we won’t know if they’re friendly or hostile. If hostile, we’re TOAST. Any civilization advanced enough to make a multi-kilometer ship that goes a fraction of c would be so advanced that our technology may as well be sticks and stones. Dull sticks to boot.

Well, I don’t know about the pics, but SETI uses radio telescopes to listen for radio patterns emanating from various points in space. They aren’t looking for objects...they can’t. So, unless this guy heard these objects whistling through the aether, why, and how, could he be the one to sound the alarm?

Whatever is coming, I hope it hits within 50 feet of my house I will be very satisfied. Ten miles away will disappoint me unless there is an instantaneous earthquake that shatters the rocks simultaneously in my yard into a white dust. Or hit Hawaii, where there won’t be any effect here in the Sierra’s.
I hope it turns out that I wasn’t in a rush to pay off the mortgages early. I just don’t like having bills hanging over my head.
