Its tempting to see Riveras position through a racial lens. In the clip he attributes not only the Baltimore plot, but also the Sears Tower plot and a couple of others to entrapment, but to my knowledge its only after this plot emerged that Geraldo adopted the entrapment line. And heres the thing: Husseins name prior to his conversion to Islam was Antonio Martinez. Rivera is famously and aggressively pro-illegal immigration, which he routinely casts as a racial struggle. He even wrote a book about it, ingeniously called HisPanic. See what he did there? Feel free to supply your own cheesy rim shot. Martinez is a U.S. citizen, but the racial logic seems to apply here as well.
Heres why I say that: There s no reasonable way at this point to see Hussein as entrapped regarding the military recruitment center plot. The evidence thats available so far says Hussein is a garden variety terrorist wannabe, leaving us to search for another explanation for Riveras peculiar stance.
Point number 1: Hussein went on Facebook and mouthed off against the U.S. military. Robert Spencer has the details:
The source told CBS that he had been mouthing off to friends and wanted to retaliate against the military for the wars, and when others heard about it, they wanted nothing to do with it.
Mouthing off of course is not a crime, but making threats against the military will bring attention your way. And think about that last line. Thats other Muslims who read his rants against the U.S. military and wanted nothing to do with it. So is Hussein/Martinez really just gullible, or is he an aggressor?
Point 2: Hussein is also a jihadist.
A 21-year-old construction worker who had recently converted to Islam and told an FBI informant he thought about nothing but jihad was arrested Wednesday when he tried to detonate what he thought was a bomb at a military recruitment center, authorities said.
According to court documents, he has been on the FBIs radar screen since October, when he told a confidential FBI source he wanted to attack and kill military personnel.
Does that sound gullible? It doesnt to me.
Point 3: Hussein hates non-Muslims and those who oppress Muslims.
An affidavit filed in support of the criminal complaint alleges that on September 29, 2010, Martinez publicly posted on his Facebook account a statement calling for violence to stop the oppression of Muslims, and that on Oct. 1, 2010, he publicly posted a message stating that he hates any person who opposes Allah and his prophet, a Justice Department statement said.
What the FBI seems to have done in this case is pick up on the possibility of a Muslim convert on the verge of Sudden Jihad Syndrome, and they worked to determine the extent of the threat, and then they found a way to neutralize it, saving lives and bagging a terrorist.
Isnt this what we want the post 9-11 FBI to do?
To accuse them of entrapping a gullible youth based on the available evidence is huge stretch. Not only does it damage whats left of Riveras own credibility, it injects race into what ought to be a purely national security story. Geraldo seems to be in a tizzy to defend a fellow Hispanic, when no one cares about that at all. No one is saying that Hussein did this because hes Hispanic, nor even that its because a Muslim. Its because hes a jihadist. His own violent, jihadist comments earned him the FBIs glare, and his own violent ambitions led him to try to detonate that inert bomb. You cant entrap someone to do that. People care about the fact the he wanted to kill U.S. military personnel and recruits on American soil, and he was thwarted, both by the vigilant FBI and by his own fellow Muslims. Thats all to the good.
Geraldo is beclowning himself. Again.
Bryan Preston has been a leading conservative blogger and opinionator since founding his first blog in 2001. Bryan is a military veteran, worked for NASA, was a founding blogger and producer at Hot Air, was producer of the Laura Ingraham Show and, most recently before joining PJM, was Communications Director of the Republican Party of Texas.
Perfect example of a lib, the kind of person who couldn’t organize a beer bash.
The lib’s just light my fire. It’s always the same refrain, “We have to understand WHY evil people do evil deeds.”
Next thing is they will claim entrapment, like Muhammed the Oregon bomber.
“Why Fox hired the turkey is a mystery”
It’s really not. FNC is mainly just a vehicle for commercials. It also makes half of America feel like everything is OK with the media, which is is not.
This is a fully set up gag between him & O’really. They do it all the time, and no doubt yuk it up afterward.
How many on 9/11 were “gullible youngsters”?
He made the same assinine remark regarding the Sears Tower plot years ago. I saw him on Fox News at the time and I haven't had a tv for 3 years now.
And the sting operations to catch sexual predators target gullible oldsters. < /sarcasm >
Martinez is a 21 year old wannabe terrorist who tried to murder some of our military and Geraldo calls him a 'gullible youngster,' says the FBI entrapped him.
If you're reading this Geraldo Rivera, you suck!!!
...all comes down to race.
Just like those two bored, gullible, wayward boys at Columbine, right Geraldo?
Doesn't he look like former pornstar, Harry Reems?
None, because they weren’t Hispanic. To Geraldo, this is about Illegal Immigration.
Why could it not have been jerry rivers instead of Danny Pearl?
Even they have standards.
I hear you.
“This is a fully set up gag between him & Oreally. They do it all the time, and no doubt yuk it up afterward.”
Ha. You are so right on...lol
His first knee jerk reaction is “his immigration status is irrelevant.
Even though it is an evil subject... that there is funny!
It does make one wonder.
If a Gullible Youngster kills you, you aren’t really dead.
Geraldo Rivera appeared on The O'Reilly Factor Wednesday night to argue that Mohammed Hussein, the man who attempted to bomb a military recruitment center in Catonsville, Maryland, was entrapped by the FBI.Thanks jazusamo.
I think he’s parroting Judge Napolitano (Fox Business channel), who said a similar thing about another jihadist who was caught before he could blow anyone up. Fox has its share of idiots, that’s for sure.
Every time i think of Jerry Rivers, I’m reminded of the scene between Mac (Bill Duke) and Dillon (Carl Weathers) in the movie “Predator”...Dillon had unintentionally slipped in a patch of leaves in the jungle, and when he gained his footing, there was Mac immediately in his face, to quietly confront him:
“You ghostin’ us, mother(figure out the rest)! I don’t care who you are in the world. You give away our position one more time...I’ll bleed you...real quiet....leave you here...got that?”
Martinez is a moron and dangerous, but I’m much more concerned about the morons who are motivated enough to build their own truck bombs or carry out independent actions.
Too bad the FBI couldn’t have given him some stuff that made the Geiger counter click. That would have made a really great headline.
He may be. I didn’t hear the judge on that but we get the Portland, OR local channels here in So WA and the libs over there are having fits about the Christmas muslim jihadist supposedly being entrapped by the FBI with the bomb he tried to detonate. It’s BS, IMHO.
The judge was quite forceful about it. Can’t recall which show he was on, but it was shocking. If the judge is right, then virtually any sting—any crime—would be “entrapment.” Clearly, the courts don’t usually see it that way. Enemies of our country, on the other hand, are anxious to justify our destruction.
Last week when Geraldo was making his mandatory weekly promo visit to Fox and Friends, he was talking about an issue having to do with Obama and said, "I love the guy." The show hosts went silent. (probably due to shock at his idiocy)
He has an ego that practically struts around on its own. I wonder if he's even aware that he's actually just a little weenie with an over-sized mustache.
That sounds like something the little Rat would say and you’re right on about the ego, can’t stand to watch the guy and don’t.
