PPP: How Dems see the GOP 2012 Field (The Donkeys like Huckabee)
Public Policy Polling ^ | 12/09/2010 | Tom Jensen

Posted on 12/10/2010 7:51:59 AM PST by SeekAndFind

The first seven states where we've taken a full look at the 2012 race for President have shown some wide differences in how much Democratic voters like the prospective Republican candidates for President. There's been little difference though in the extent to which Democrats are actually willing to vote for any of the Republicans.

On average 16% of Democrats have a favorable opinion of Huckabee. That puts him a little bit ahead of Mitt Romney at 13% and well ahead of Newt Gingrich at 10% and Sarah Palin at 9%. Huckabee is either the most popular or tied as the most popular Republican across party lines in all seven states we've polled except Minnesota, where he finished just a point behind Romney.

You might look at those numbers and say that Huckabee would be clearly the best candidate for Republicans to get the sort of crossover support they need in 2012. But that's actually not the case. In head to heads with Barack Obama in these seven states Huckabee averages earning 9% of the Democratic vote. Romney gets an equivalent 9%, Palin gets 8%, and Gingrich comes in at 7%.

There are a fair number of Democrats who like Huckabee or Romney but not so much that they're actually willing to vote for them. On the other hand there are few who like Gingrich or Palin, but those two do a better job of actually earning the votes of the few Democrats who do like them.

So Democrats might not hate their President as much as Republicans do or Democrats did during the Bush years if Huckabee was to be elected in 2012- but they wouldn't give him a whole lot of support either.

Here's the full data:

It worked for them pretty well in 2008, didn’t it? I’ll lay 50-50 odds that Mitt is too smart to pour any more of the money he earned down a rat hole and we’ll be hearing a lot more about Huck as a result.

Ok... listen closely. huck raised taxes more than he cut them... he spent like a drunken sailor... sean got him to admit that. huck said that we had to support social programs to help people... welfare, health, housing, income credit etc... after arguing with sean about it he said that if taking from some Americans to give to other Americans was socialism... then he was a socialist. This is the same thing that gene taylor has said... and his blue dog self will be unemplyed January 5th.

I've taken that quiz. It isn't a bad quiz, but it does require that the questions be answered honestly in order to give a valid result. FWIW, I ended up exactly at the intersection of Libertarian, Right Conservative and Moderate.

The trouble with Huck is that his actual record in the political arena is entirely different from his stated positions now. Particularly in regard to economic populism, illegal aliens and criminal pardons.

If you believe he's had a total change of heart on these issues, then you also should believe that Mitt has become an ardent pro-lifer.

Dumb-HUCK on Immigration:

I notice, conspicuous by its absence, that Huckabee said it was “Un-Christian” to deny government benefits to illegal aliens.

Why wasn't THAT on the list????

LOL!

This story is a useful reminder: What good does it do to have a Donkey like a candidate if he/ she won't actually vote for that candidate?

I made the same observation in regard to John McCain back in 2008. It was irrelevant that the Media and other Dems liked him-- they weren't going to vote for him in any case.

They like Huck not because of any of his views. They like him because he is a weak debater and will let Obummer walk all over him. I was never impressed with him during the debates,
