Governor Palin was ahead of the pack when she rejected the bill which passed the Senate yesterday.
Republicans in the Senate once again collapsed. They could have stopped this bill, but they didn't.
Do we need an extension of the Bush tax rates? Yes, but permanently! Why? For two reasons. First, because a permanent extension of the Bush tax rates would help create a long term business friendly environment thus "stimulating" the economy. Second, because permanently lower tax rates would completely change the direction of government growth. Lower tax rates means a limit to spending to force cuts in government spending.
What else is wrong with the present bill? How about billions in earmarks spending? This is spending which is important to one member of Congress, and is added to larger legislation to get their vote. Earmarks is a tool to get your representative to vote for legislation they would not otherwise support!
The last campaign was, in part, about the abuse of earmarks and the credit card mentiality of the Obama Administration and the Democrats.
What else is wrong? How 'bout the promotion of gay Rights by ending the policy against homosexuality in the Armed Services. Isn't this issue important enough to be addressed on its own?
Republicans in the Senate had the power to kill this huge 1.1 trillion dollar bill. This bill is in effect the budget for 2012. Do you see where the two parties don't really offer two different choices? Do you see where moderate Republicans are just Democrats?
There is still a chance to stop this bill. Wait til January to address these very important issues. Wait til the new Congress, representing the people's will today has taken their seats.
Sarah Palin had been almost alone when she opposed this bill. Now, most Americans reject this bill. A sign of a leader is knowing the mind of the nation, before even the nation knows...Sarah seems to be a leader with that skill.
And competing "its my turn" Repub would-be candidates are silent. As usual.
After Mitt so boldly came out against the bill yesterday, Rich Lowry inaccurately and deceptively had a grid up over at NRO where he showed the supposed GOP presidential contenders’ positions on it. Even as he updated it through the day he showed Mitt as some sort of a leader on it while others such as Palin supposedly hadn’t taken a position.
She of course had come right out in support of DeMint’s opposition to the bill with a tweet the week before.
I think the tax rate extension has different provisions than the continuing resolution (Obamnibus). DADT wasn’t in the tax extension as far as I know.
“Governor Palin was ahead of the pack ...”
That’s becoming pretty common, idn’t it?
This part is completely wrong. Most of the time, government cuts in the tax rate cause the actual government revenue to increase.
Did they already read that bill on the floor? I swear I heard DeMint yesterday on the radio say he was going to demand they read it before they voted on it. Was that just a dream?
Good old National Romney Online...
The Government ends up with about 18 to 20% of GDP regardless of tax schedules - but tax cuts grow the economy and so the Government ends up with the same fraction of a bigger pie.
History being rewritten. DeMint was the first to speak out against this bill.
That’s the $1.1 trillion budget bill that DeMint has promised to have read.
It is and for those who scorn Palin’s use of tweets and facebook posts, they need to wake up.
It’s a way to respond instantly to any charges or questions that come up.
It takes a lot longer to get a column written and accepted by the New York Times (that’s a joke — it would take forever).
Once she’s stated her position on Facebook, she can restate it in more respected places later, but it’s out there immediately for the record.
Almost alone and alone are two different things. Mr. Vogl isn't claiming that Governor Palin was the only person who opposed the bill. Calm down.
So, they snuck in the repeal of DADT?
No, I believe the author is speaking about potential presidential candidates...of those Sarah is out in front.
DeMint has said repeatedly he is NOT running...(what ever will you do when he keeps his word?)
It was a list of presidential contenders, and they don’t have DeMint on it because he keeps saying he’s not running.
And they didn’t consider Palin’s tweet to be definitive because she repeated what others said, rather than making her own argument as to why she felt it was a bad deal.
Which she could easily make into a facebook post — facebook isn’t limiting like Twitter. Twitter is a great way to get out little snippets of info, but not useful for a policy discussion, because there just aren’t enough words to make an argument.
No problem—I understand your post wasn’t actually directed toward me.
I haven’t seen a facebook entry for her on this yet — but we don’t get facebook at work and I haven’t had time today to look at posts until now. Was there a freeper post about a facebook entry?
I don’t know, haven’t seen it either.
I’ve just seen Palin haters on other threads decry her use of twitter and facebook, but those sites enable her to get her position out immediately while others are still lumbering around trying to find a microphone.
