Envirofascism Leaves Dirty Dishes
Right Wing News ^ | December 15, 2010 | Van Helsing

Everything is grubby in countries run by statist moonbats — even dishes fresh out of the dishwasher.

A couple of months ago, Sandra Young from Vernon, Fla., started to notice that something was seriously amiss with her dishes.

"The pots and pans were gray, the aluminum was starting to turn black, the glasses had fingerprints and lip prints still on them, and they were starting to get this powdery look to them," Vernon says. "I'm like, oh, my goodness, my dishwasher must be dying, I better get a new dishwasher."

But others are having the same problem all across the country. Dishwashers aren't to blame. As with virtually all problems large and small, it's the fault of Big Government.

Seventeen states have banned phosphates from dishwashing detergent, on the theory that they encourage algae to grow. So manufacturers took out the ingredient that made the detergent effective.
Susan Baba from Procter and Gamble says the company had no choice. It just wasn't feasible to make detergent with phosphates for some states and without them for others.

"You know, this isn't really a huge environmental win," she says.

That's because phosphates are wonder ingredients. They not only strip food and grease from dishes but also prevent crud from getting reattached during the wash. So she says without phosphates, people have to wash or rinse their dishes before they put them in the dishwasher, which wastes water. Or they run their dishwasher twice, which wastes electricity.

But the point of environmental regulations isn't to make life more pleasant for polar bears and delta smelt. It's to make it less pleasant for us by tightening the noose of ubiquitous, all-powerful government around our necks.

Meanwhile, Sandra Young is buying trisodium phosphate at the hardware store and mixing her own detergent — until our rulers get around to forbidding it.

On a tip from JWWright. Cross-posted at Moonbattery.

Noting trisodium phosphate for when we can only get GI-dishwashers.

I don’t know why enviroweenies seem to always be able to force their agenda on the rest of us but this must stop. I guess because they read neat slick nature magazines ‘n stuff. Environmentalism is basically unhealthy.

Some things of note on this issue.

The ban that most of these state issued did NOT include commercial (resturant) and institutional users. That alone is enough proof that it is a control issue, not an environmental issue.

Buy from where they buy and you'll be OK. Also you can use on-line websites to order phosphate laden deteregent. I now buy it by the case from Amazon.

We buy trisodium phosphate at the hardware store and add one table spoon to our dishwasher when doing dishes. Now our dishes come clean and sparkle again.

Yep. Just try to buy a REAL electric blanket that warms the bed before you get in.

Some have a preheat function but you have to look carefully to get it.

The left is winning many battles.

It takes me 3 times as long to clean dishes and they still aren’t clean. Maybe our Congress could get off their butts and do something about this. I also don’t want to pay a good sum of money for good stuff only to find out I can’t get it clean and it will deteriorate due to our government.

Oh, you don’t want to do that. You’ll get your phosphates back, along with $1.3 million for a bug museum in NC, $48 billion for Emanual Cleavers nutjob inner cities program, repeal of DADT, spending on Obamacare bureaucracies, etc., etc.

It reminds me of the toilets that use half as much water, but have to be flushed twice.

It's okay, as any enviro-nut can tell you, the water supply is endless.

You should see some of the new ones. They actually work. One of them has a 3" drain to the bowl with a specially designed flow path. In the demo I watched, it was amazing.

Our dishwasher in our condo in Seattle broke about 7 months ago. Our farm in Kentucky has no dishwasher. Regarding the condo, we told the landlord about it but said we were fine with hand washing, which is what we have done ever since.

Seems to work pretty well, but then, we are empty nesters. And we like cooking and cleaning together.

>>It reminds me of the toilets that use half as much water, but have to be flushed twice.<<

We have those in my office building. Typically you have to flush three times (and they are auto flush, but with the little black override button), and when you enter a stall, the toilet usually has leftover paper and “stuff” in the water from the previous user.

When we were looking for a house several years ago hubby refused to consider any that had the new toilets. Said he wanted “Turd Suckers” not a toilet he had to flush three times.
