Why is Scandinavia rich?
"- Because of oil", some would reply.
It's true Norway has oil.
Libiya too has.
Libiya, in fact, has even more of it than Norway does. More gas too.
But Libiya isn't rich like Norway is.
A tour in the average Norwegian family's leisure boat and a vacation spent in their "hytte" - summer house - could probably make them Libiyans reflect upon this issue.
In fact, Norway has more dollar millionaires than any other country has.
Perhaps it's a matter of playing your cards well..
I personally love Germany (and Norge/Norway as well).
Germans are clever people and we all like their cars.
But I'd rather crash in a Volvo. Furthermore, Volvos are the only cars that live longer than MB's.
Asian companies?
The Japanese, Koreans and Chinese sure are smart.
But by today, both Americans and they are outsmarted by companies like Ericsson and Nokia.
Today, Stockholm is the city it-companies flock to. Not Berlin, Tokyo or Silicon Valley.
The British?
They once invented the game of Capitalism.
Today, Stockholm masters it.
In some years, Stockholm is predicted to surpass Berlin and Rome in population size.
Skål, loosers.
Remember all that blather around ten years ago about the great Celtic Tiger economy of Ireland?
If things are going well for Norwegians, I’m pleased for them. Throw in a little Global Warming, and it could be a really nice country.

- Yes I do.
The Irish still are rich - and since 1870 or so Sweden is the most successful economy on Earth among Western nations.
On an annual basis, the Swedish economy grew by 6.9% according to the latest statistics.

Maybe percentage-wise. In fact the number of individual millionaires in the US is equal to more than half the population of Norway. According to Wikipedia, Norway is not even in the top 13 in number of millionaires.

If Sweden was so great, why did my great-grandfather and a few hundred thousands of other Swedes move to Minnesota?

- No single Norwegians can compete with Russians and Arabs in this field.
However, certain other Scandinavians can.
According to Forbes, two of the 15 richest men on Earth are Scandinavians; namely Ingvar Kamprad and Stefan Persson.
Both are Swedish citizens.

- Why did millions stay?
Let’s not forget the real issue here; the success of Scandinavia in the domain of economy.
Scandinavia is prosperous because of Capitalism, America is perhaps even richer from some aspects, but we all are aware the Scandinavian countries are very rich DESPITE lacking gargantuan national deficits.
This is not a matter of someone in Europe wishing to bully USA over the Internet, this is something all Americans ought to take very serious.
