Illegals yes; 9 year old Brits on vacation, hell no!

If you needed any further proof that our nation is being run by a gaggle of incompetents here you go:

From the Telegraph:

Civil servants Kathy and Edward Francis planned to surprise their grandson Micah Strachan with the holiday of a lifetime to Florida in February.

They were only going to tell Micah about it when they took him to the airport on February 19 for the flight to the US.

They had already spent more than £1,500 on plane tickets and had been organising the trip for months.

But this week US Embassy officials denied the schoolboy a visa to enter the US.

They said there was a risk he would not leave the US at the end of his holiday and refused his application under Section 214 (b) of the Immigration and Nationality Act.

Wait, what? You mean because there is a chance that a 9 year old British national might not leave the country he was denied entry. This is truly amazing. We have millions of illegal immigrants crossing our border without even a cursory effort at compliance and someone who actually, properly applies for entry is denied.

I’m sure there’s more to the story than this.

"Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence"

I forget what it is called but it’s a green card you fill out and a white card.

I think what you mean is an Embarkment / Disembarkment card. Everyone is required to fill those, AFAIK.

I agree with you on that.

BTW that info I believe does not cover the tourist visa for some reason.
I’ll go through my passport in a bit and see if I have the visa still in there if you like I then could send it to you ,

that is if you’re interested.

I agree with you the system is broken along with the idiots of the TSA

If they were penniless, illiterate, TB-infested Somali Muslims with 9 children, Eric Holder and the Kenyan would have greeted them at the airport and provided personal tours of Disney on the Government’s dime on a new Stimulus program called “Cash for Camel Humpers”.

You hit the nail on the head about any and all Government or Government-inspired bureaucracy.

They set up rules and regulations that are rigid and need “management’s approval” for exceptions.

The “box”, the manual, the guidelines set the grid and if you somehow evade the grid (illegals coming here by foot), you then fall into the Social Services grid where the aforementioned offense is ignored and you are not in “the system.”

Bureaucracy begets more bureaucracy to offset itself and employs millions of virtually useless unionized, unfirable, lifetime-pensioned “workers” who only exist to steal from the private sector. 80% of Goverment should be axed, permanently.

“We have trash working in our government look in any Federal office, some of them are on green card.”

We also have many fine patriots working there. Hubby is a veteran and now protects our borders, as he has for the past 22 years. I was in the Air Force Reserves, and was a Customs Inspector for 9 years myself.”

You know what I was referring to! BTW God Bless and Protect him.

Bring little Micah to Tijuana. He and his grandparents can have the adventure of a lifetime sneaking across the border and once he gets here, he can enroll in school, get welfare and food stamps, get free health care, and when he goes to college, that will be a free ride too! Then he can show his gratitude by voting only for Democrats.

The parents failed to obtain the appropriate passport, and instead attempted the kid’s entry into the United States using a wrong passport without the adequate visa.

I feel much safer. I would feel even more safe if in response to this outrageous attempted invasion, Homeland Security would execute a few hundred no-knock warrantless raids, and confiscate a bunch of 30 round magazines.

I would be completely in my snuggy zone if Congress got together next week and passed a new Espionage and Sedition Act...

Why would the youngster need a visa to come visit the US? I thought like a US Citizen going to Europe...the British could visit the US on their passport for 90 days.....Poor little kid.. Hope he can make it one day..and doesn’t have to go to the pale immitation Euro-Disney.

No one who is a national from the 36 countries in the Visa Waiver Program needs a visitors Visa if the stay is less than 90 days. You can enter the information on line before your trip and it’s highly unlikely you’ll have any issues (exceptions would be you’re on a do not fly or terror watch list)
Upon arrival, some people may be taken into secondary for an interview to determine the actual purpose of their stay (are they here for free medical care, employment, etc.)

MMMMMMMMMMMM, Lets see for years of me coming back and forth with family and friends over a hundred times with all of us together I’d say that we do need a visitors visa because we have had to fill them out .

You fill out a customs form and a visitors visa, that visa gets put into a passport for your stay and if you overstay your 90 days then you are in violation of immigration laws and therefore illegal

Let's see for years of me being a Customs and Border Protection Officer, daily examining hundreds of travel documents from all over the world, I'd say that you're wrong and don't know what a visa looks like.

Visas are not "filled out" by passengers, they're issued by The State Dept. What you've filled out is/was an I-94W (arrival and departure record) and is nothing like a visa in appearance, application, or issuance.

Before you go correcting people, at least familiarize yourself with the correct, official information others have posted on this very page.

What you call a so called arrival and departure record is what the American embassy in London and what many others call a visa .
I know damn well what I have had to do to travel to America and so does many of my friends and family.

You used to have to fill the visa form out on the plane flying over along with the customs form but since 9/11 you now have to give your name before you get on a plane and then wait for your vacation 90 day visa.

so you stick to what you think you know I;’ll stick to what I have done and what many others have done over the last 20 years..

Why don’t you just admit that you’re wrong?

The embassy didn’t have anything to do with an I-94 W. You’d only have to contact them if you were inadmissible under the VWP (business, extended stay student, immigrant, etc.)

Now we have the ESTA program, which has been around for about two years.

Now Id have to believe that everyone at the London Embassy called a document they wouldn’t have ready access to by its incorrect and counter intuitive name and repeatedly (hundreds of times???) failed to point out that the airlines provide the form along with the 6509B.

That just doesn’t seem too likely to me.
