You Wanna Bet? Pa. Woman Challenges Date-Setting Evangelist
American Thinker ^ | 1/19/11 | Marylou Barry

"Judgment Day, May 21, 2011. The Bible guarantees it!" proclaims the homepage of evangelist Harold Camping's website FamilyRadio.com.

Is he serious? Yes, according to the website, but that's only half the story, because now:

"Janice Wisner from State College, Pennsylvania, is challenging founder Harold Camping to put his money where his mouth is and deed his home (or homes as may be the case) to her. She promises not to move in until May 22nd this year."

Just how many times does that scripture have to be brought out?? These people that continue, in spite of it, to make idiots out of themselves and causes a loss in credibility for the rest of us.

Sickening. I understand even Hal Lindsey pulled this in the 90’s.

(hope you and yours are doing better 2nd)

I hope he is willing to accept the Old Testament punishment for false prophets.

From Wiki:

“In The Late, Great Planet Earth, Lindsey wrote that he had concluded, since there was no apparent mention of the United States of America in the books of Daniel or Revelation, that the USA would no longer be a major player on the geo-political stage by the time the tribulations of the end times arrived. Lindsey also interpreted from Revelation and prophetic texts that the European Economic Community, which preceded the European Union, was destined (according to Biblical prophecy) to become a “United States of Europe”, with ten members, which in turn he says is destined to become a “Revived Roman Empire” ruled by the Antichrist. The European Union currently has 27 members.

A later book, bearing the title The 1980s: Countdown to Armageddon, implied that the battle of Armageddon would take place in the not too distant future, stating “the decade of the 1980s could very well be the last decade of history as we know it”[7] and that the U.S. could be “destroyed by a surprise Soviet nuclear attack.”[8] The book strongly suggests that the 1980s would see the biblical events of tribulation and end times come to pass.

Planet Earth - 2000 A.D., published in the early 1990s, states that Christians should not plan to still be on earth by the year 2000.

Lindsey’s earlier predictions all assumed that the Cold War would continue indefinitely, and had eschatological significance; he explicitly identified Russia with the apocalyptic figure of Gog. He also assumed that the 1960s counterculture would eventually become the dominant culture, and become the source of prophesied “immorality” that would lead to the establishment of a false religion.”

The late Jeanne said it was going to be 2000. A whole lot of forgotten authors also said 2000 was going to be the end times. Cayce is out. He made all sorts of cataclysmic predictions that were supposed to have started in 1968! Now we’re stuck with the damn Mayan Calender. What’s a millenarian to do?

The Mayans got it wrong. 2012 isn’t going to be the end times, it’s going to be the end of The Times. The New York Times is going to go bankrupt.

I would be very, very surprised if Lindsey set the Year for the Second Coming, let alone a Day.

Lindsey has consistently said that it is soon, but no specific dates.

IIRC Camping has set at least 2 previous dates that came and went with no judgment.

Unfortunately, "soon" is an indeterminate future time, a circumstance complicated by the fact that God, being outside of time, has a different conception of "soon" than we do.

In other words, in addition to the scriptural injunction of post #2, logically attempting to predict the second coming is a total and utter waste of time, irrespective of how zealous and earnest the predictor may be.

Much better to concentrate on living well and in God's grace on each day as it comes. That's a hard enough calling for most of us! :)

We will see, won’t we? If no one knows the day or hour then it could be May 21st or any other time. We should be prepared regardless. I hope it is 5/21, it’s time...

He didn't actually set a date, just a general time frame. He also said that the USA would no longer be a major player on the geopolitical stage.

How is the Hopey-Changey thing working out for all of us?

Yeah, but datesetters always pick something in the future knowing it will be forgotten. Then it passes and they set a new date.

I see that Israel coming back into its home land in 1948 as the beginning of end times. It set the clock to ticking for all the things to happen as listed in the Bible. The persecution of Christians is getting worse. The birth pangs are getting harder and faster now for the great snatch of Christians off this ugly world. Soon, Lord Jesus, soon!

Lindsey never named a date, he just points out what the signs say. He’s right about the signs, but if he ever named a date, we can all make bets with him, too! :)
