Who Is Charles Krauthammer ?
Pajamas Media ^ | January 29, 2011 | David Solway

Posted on 01/29/2011 4:53:09 AM PST by RobinMasters

There's something cryptic and elusive about Krauthammer, like the coy Waldo in the famous puzzle. (And don't miss Steve Green on "Krauthammer Correcting Krauthammer." )

Charles Krauthammer has long been recognized as one of America’s most astute and authoritative political columnists, acknowledged as a cut above the majority of his scrivening colleagues. And yet there is something cryptic and elusive about him, like the coy Waldo in the famous puzzle. Perhaps he resents being put in boxes and wishes to preserve his independence of judgment, or his unpredictability.

Still, one detects a growing tendency to pronounce upon critical affairs without sufficient grounding in the penetralia of things along with a positional inconsistency that renders him at times maddeningly unlocatable, like a slippery electron in a split-screen experiment.

In other words, it is becoming increasingly difficult to determine where he can be reliably found on the ideological scale. Is he a conservative, a centrist, a “situational libertarian,” or all of these at different times? Is he a fiscal conservative like Terry Corcoran and, simultaneously, a social liberal like Alan Dershowitz? He is certainly far to the right of the New York Times, as any thinking person must be, but then he writes for the ultra-liberal Washington Post. Does he share a secret sympathy with choice portions of its editorial line or is he the paper’s resident conservative, whose purpose is to impart a semblance of impartiality?

“I see him as highly intelligent, fairly conservative, but (sadly) very elitist.”

Before making this posting I took the time to go to Wikipedia and read CK’s bio. It appears to me he began his professional life as a liberal and then migrated toward conservatism as he aged and became wiser - a common life journey for many. However, I do believe that he a some level he has remained a crypto-liberal and he reveals this from time to time in his comments and writings. But, I think he has to be admired for his inner drive and determination to over come two severe potentially rehabilitating handicaps; his paralysis and his stuttering. Many have subcombed to either of these but he has successfully dealt with both and has become successful and self sufficient. Gotta admire that regards of where he falls on the political spectrum.

Speaking of sufficient grounding in penetralia, it's "slit" not "split." ;)

Great analogy though!

One of the “allowed” “conservative” commentators...

NOTE: do FR’s get a gold star ^ a purple jelly bean for making up names for people he don;t agree with.

If you have to call people names, you have no ideas!

I was wondering if Krauthammer is married. The Wiki article leaves out most personal info for Krauthammer.

I did find this very informative article on another site:

Charles Krauthammer: Prize Writer

He grew up in Canada. Nuff said:)

Krauthammer is a Romney supporter.

That should cover it.

Methinks this article was overwrotten....

CK is smarter than the average bayer, but his oracular delivery leads to the expectation that he is always and unanswerably right.
Which makes it all the more distressing when he clearly isn’t.

I was being sarcastic. I guess it’s some bridge strategy.

I don’t like condescending to people with disabilities - particularly with highly successful, wealthy elitists like Mr. K. He can take care of himself.

Love your typing error! Sort of a mix of “overwritten” and “overwrought.” Both of which apply to this article.

Witty plays on names are as old as the sun. (Not that mine are witty, lol!) On the political left, Dr. K is known as Dr. Strangelove. Can’t get worse than that. And it’s pretty funny, too.

Take even 20 minutes of speech class, and you’ll learn that a deep voice and slow, measured speech results in people hanging onto your every syllable like Wiley Coyote hanging onto a cliff twig.
0bama has the gift, to a much lesser degree.
Sadly, Alan Keyes and Sarah Palin do not.
It’s good for around 50 points on the IQ radar.

I appreciate that. I enjoy hearing what he has to say and deciding for myself.

I’ll second that. I’ve always liked his analysis; offers some interesting tidbits without the bluster. Don’t always agree with it, but definitely respect it.
