Trend: Burn a Koran, Get Arrested .

Koran burnings by Westerners are rightly frowned upon, but more regrettable is the trend of investigating, arresting, and even prosecuting those who set them aflame. Consider the cases to make the news since a Florida pastor first promised to torch Korans on the anniversary of 9/11.

Examples from the United States:

In September, the East Lansing Police Department offered a $10,000 reward for information about the person responsible for leaving a charred Koran outside a Michigan mosque. An individual surrendered, but the prosecutor shelved the case because "there is no criminal offense that I can charge under Michigan law." In December, Jesse Quinn Harrison of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was charged with a hate crime for allegedly sending an "intimidating" letter to a mosque and uploading a video in which a Koran and pork chops are grilled, placed on a bun, and fed to a dog. Prosecutors claimed that the video intends to "produce violence directed to others because of their religious beliefs." Harrison was held at a mental facility before charges were dropped. Examples from Europe:

In September, several self-described "English nationalists" were arrested on suspicion of inciting racial hatred for allegedly posting a video of them burning a Koran behind a pub in Gateshead, Tyneside. Due to insufficient evidence, no charges were brought. In October, French police arrested an individual from Bischheim, Bas-Rhin, over an online video that "shows a man tearing off a page of the Koran, making a paper plane, and throwing it onto two glasses representing the World Trade Center. The man then burns the page and urinates onto its ashes." The citation against him for promoting racial hatred has been dismissed due to procedural errors, but a new hearing may be imminent. In November, UK police arrested a teenage girl on suspicion of inciting religious hatred for allegedly burning a Koran on the premises of her West Midlands school, videotaping the incident, and posting it online. Despite the Crown Prosecution Service claiming "sufficient evidence" to move the case forward, it decided not to pursue charges. In January, UK police arrested a man in Carlisle, Cumbria, who allegedly was "making pronouncements against the Muslim religion in front of a large crowd" and then "set fire to the Koran he was holding." He was arrested for "using racially aggravated threatening words or behavior" and has been released on bail as the investigation continues.

Yes, those taken into custody for burning Korans often escape charges, but why are they being detained in the first place? Does not true Western freedom imply the ability to express unpopular and even offensive views — without the risk of an involuntary trip to the police station?

What a colossal waste of money! He didn't burn the evil mosque down did he?

It's pitchfork time!

Surprisingly, the UK seems less than interested in stopping this sort of thing.

video in which a Koran and pork chops are grilled

By far the most creative (and funny) 'hate crime'.

Unless they're doing the same to those who burn Bibles this is and establishment clause case waiting to happen. Let's see if any of those upset by this happening will pursue it in court of if they'll just keep repeating that it's happening to add to the pessimism they see as advantageous to their goals.

It's like the dolts who sat out the election because if Barry Soetoro won it would be a good thing long term for Conservatives. While that was and is true, it assumes that we can actually recover from all the harm being done. The fact is, we probably can't recover from all of it, at least not in less than many decades. We're still paying for the idiots Carter and Clinton so how optimistic can you honestly be that we're going to be able to recover from this Muslim traitor as President?

I recall that there is an atheist that makes a career out of traveling America stealing and destroying Gideon Bibles? When are arrest warrants going top be issued?

Americans need to be “educated” to the real menace of Muslims.

They need to be told that Islam is not a religion but a socio-political cult.

Arresting someone for burning a Koran now is equivalent to arresting someone for burning Mein Kampf in the 1940’s.

The left’s use of political correctness as a political tool to undermine free speech has come full circle to the point where we are rendering ourselves incapable of removing a political cancer from our midst.

Burn a koran in front of a cross in a jar of urine?

Are not both “free speech”?

So, someone can get a NEA government grant to back their "art" depicting Jesus in urine... But torch another religious symbol and get arrested? Yeah, there's no favoritism here, the State's not promoting/protecting one religion over another! ;-/

What if I get a Cross, a star of David, a small Buddha statue, and a Koran and burn them all? Would that be ok? Or would I only be arrested when I got to the Koran?

There's an interesting idea. What if several Pastors in say, Florida got together and each declared he/she was going to burn a symbol of some religion. Which one do you think would make the most news, cause the most (artificially generated?) controversy in the MSM? How about the most unrest in their respective religious communities?

I know its a common practice for hunters to have feeding stations for wild game, and they set up an elevated platform.

If I was to take a bunch of Korans, get the exact GPS coordinates of where they are, and set up a stand nearby, post the coordinates on a Sharia website I swear they will come running in rage.

Or a person could really mess with their minds and set up a website that when a person visits it they can remotely operate a real device that will ignite a fire device and by camera puts the burning Koran online.

And a really smart person would have a Paypal service or credit card acceptance, and for a small fee anyone can watch a Koran being burnt, a real one, not a recorded video.

For an additional charge you can watch a Koran being burnt in more creative ways, covered with thermite, black powder, acid, dipped in liquid nitrogen and then hit with a shotgun blast.

I can already see myself making millions!

And when someone burns a bible, will they apply the same penalty?

(obviously not. the purpose of hate crime laws is to criminalize everything a White Christian/Jew says or does, or doesn’t say or doesn’t do)

Come to Texas. We have an atheist group in UTSA(University of Texas, San Antonio) that are trading porn for bibles. Smut for Smut, it's called. Bring a bible to them and you get a porn magazine.....yes, really.

Idiots!
