In contrast to the paltry ridiculousness of President Obamas proposed $775 million budget cut, the Governor of Florida, Rick Scott, has unveiled a new budget containing $5 billion in spending reductions. To put that in perspective, Floridas deficit is $3.6 billion, so Scott is actually cutting more than is necessary to erase the states fiscal shortfall: its almost 140 percent....Obamas cutwhich a spokesman described as not easyis about 0.05 percent of the budget deficit. In other words, proportionally in terms of deficit reduction, Scotts is 2,800 times as great as Obamas. Thats right: 2,800 times.

Let’s get to work..........
Darn right. It’s about time
Way to go Rick!
Same approach urgently needed in Washington!
But - but - I thought Rick Scott was an eeeeevvvil, criminal businessman only interested in lining his own pocketS? I’m pretty sure I saw people right here on FR repeat such lines.
Go gov!
I think Rick Scott is going to be a great gov. My spouse worked with him once and said he is a dead-serious and brilliant business man.
We shall see.
Meanwhile, the two lawyers named Charlie Crist and Alex Sink are moving to create a State Constitutional Amendment to forever ban offshore drilling off the coast of Florida. I thought Charlie was working for some shyster firm named Morgan and Morgan to head up the class action lawsuit division of the firm.
Imagine if Sink had won.
There were a number of FReepers who openly supported such an outcome. Rick Scott is off to a great start as governor. He's on a mission and no media idiot or left wing crybaby is going to stop him. He's not a career politician so he doesn't care. He seems ok with only serving one term if that's what it takes to make the tough decisions that no career politician could.
The Florida liberal media is freaking out that he's actually doing what he campaigned on. It's a lot of fun watching them melt down. Where are all the FR Sink supporters now?
I can’t imagine any sane FReeper wanting Alex Sink to run this state! Retired teachers maybe?
Can you believe the horror! He is proposing that state “workers” contribute to their own pensions! 5%!!! How heartless can the guy be?!?!?!?! Think of the children! What about the manatees?!?!?!?!
Offshore drilling in FL could bring a lot of new high-paying jobs to the state. Right now, we get all of the risk of an oil spill with none of the rewards...why not reap the benefits as well and on top of that drain that oil field Cuber wants to tap before they can?
Most of them weren't even aware that Sink is married to Bill McBride. Thank goodness Scott won. The teachers here in Sarasota are apoplectic over the demand that they contribute to their retirement and that they won't be receiving automatic raises. The public sector is out of control. Scott, like Christie in NJ, is finally bringing some reality to their lives.
Rick Scott is an improbable governor — and just what Florida needs.
I hope he'll bring back the tenure bill that Crist vetoed. That would be another dose of reality these folks need. Let's also hope Scott gets his way with drilling although that's going to be a tougher sell.
Absolutely Mase. What is not surprising is the Pubic Sector’s response to having to contribute ANYTHING towards their pensions and retirement benefits. In other words, they’re okay with you and I paying for it.
As my old Southern Mom would say, “The gall!” pronounced gaawl of course ;)!
I was very reluctant about Scott, but once I saw Sink’s campaign became a Rick Scott advocate. He is off to a great start so far. I hope he keeps his nose clean because the left and media will continue to pull out the long knives for anyone cutting government.
he was “a criminal” because he opposed Hitlerycare successfully...Clinton payback machine at work there...
You have the Sarasota-Herald Tribune (or “SH*T” for short) and down here we have the Palm Beach ComPost. LOL!!
Until I turned him off, I listened to Bill Buckney [sp?] lambaste Scott nd try to scare the people on 910 am yesterday. He sounded like the Democrat shill that he is. The problem is that he poses as a Christian Conservative. He has a lot of the sheep and the Soiuthern Baptist Association snowed.
