Krauthammer: Egypt at a ‘tipping point,’ predicts ‘explosion’ when the mosques empty tomorrow

Hosni Mubarak’s vague address to the Egyptian people on Thursday has led to uncertainty in the country that has some prognosticating the worst.

On Thursday’s Fox News Channel’s “Special Report,” Charles Krauthammer accused the Egyptian president of being delusional, and said his response will lead to “an explosion.”

“That was a shocking speech and what is shocking about it is they had raised the expectation of the crowd in the square,” Krauthammer said. “There was an announcement by the military earlier that their demands would be met, as we saw all of the dancing, and all of a sudden you get a speech where the president of Egypt is clueless, delusional, speaking in paternalistic tones the way he did two weeks ago, as if nothing has happen[ed] — speaking to the demonstrators as his children. They see him as their tyrant. It seems to me that they are at a point where they are going to have an explosion.”

This is so silly. Mubarek and the military are inseparable. He has spent the last 35 years customizing the military bureaucracy to conform to his leadership. Mubarek has now discovered that the plot to overthrow him was hatched in DC. Obama is in deep water and will shortly drown. The military will declare martial law if the demonstrations do not end forthwith. There will, then, be a bloodbath purging Obama’s trouble makers. Egypt for the Egyptians will be maintained. Ties with Israel will become stronger as Israel demonstrates its absolute commitment to Egyptian stability.

Just remember, 2 million US citizens marched in the streets of DC to oppose Obamacare. O was not impressed. 1 million kids rampage in the streets of Cairo and O sees the march of democracy. The boy president has overplayed his hand.

I predict a Tenemen Square senerio with US made tanks crushing women and children and a crackdown as bad as anything the Red Chinese have ever done—just watch at Dusk tomorrow—They will shut off the internet again and shoo out the reporters first. Lots of people are going to die this weekend.—thats my prediction—lets hope I am wrong.

They have their bastard in the American White House and now they set out to take over the world for their supreme devil, the moon goddess cum allah candy bar.

There was a time when I thought I was the only one who didn’t swear allegiance to the great mind of Sour Kraut...boy, was I wrong!

His reaction/response to Sarah Palin's acceptance speech is what woke me up from his hypnotic prose. Most especially given that anybody with an ounce of common sense knew very well who and what BamBam was, and yet Mr. Krauthammer appeared to swoon over him as the second coming. (or maybe that is the first coming, don't know his particular religious views)

I never saw his reaction to Sarah’s great speech - thank God! I would have thrown my beer can at the tv.

Krauthammer usually has excellent insight. One of my favorite commentators and read is columns regularly. If he has something to say on Egypt, it is worth listening to.

The schism we don’t want to see will be between senior and junior members of the officer corps - or if it does take place, the old guard is retired. There isn’t an Egyptian military officer under the age of 50 who hasn’t at some point in his career been involved in a close relationship with the US military. They are the ones who we are going to have to rely on the pull the fat out of the fire. Well educated, secular leadership who understands that the future of their country isn’t going to be found in the 15th century. These guys have seen (some first hand) the trajectory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran and don’t want any part of it.

That is exactly right. Mubarak was going to go -- that was inevitable at some point. What is needed to ensure that Egypt does not go the way of Iran is for the military to stay in front of that tide rather than stand against it. As long as the military keeps its credibility in Egypt, U.S. interests should remain in pretty good shape.

Krauthammer is slobbering all over Obama’s speech earlier today on the Special Report panel right now, saying how wonderful it is that Obama and his policies are changing for the better. What a freaking nut.
