Cops arrest 11 year old kid for drawing, no one arrested for threatening to kill Walker or Palin

Sometimes there is a complete lack of balance in the world.

An 11 year old Arvada Colorado boy who was being treated for Attention Deficit Disorder was told by a teacher to draw pictures when he was upset instead of disrupting the class, so the boy did just that.

He was arrested and led away in handcuffs later in the evening for his drawing. He had drawn a stick figure picture of himself shooting a gun at four others and had written on it

"teacers must die" and "music sucks"

His therapist said that drawing was a means for the boy to vent his frustration. The boy's teacher saw the drawing as the boy was throwing it out and sent the boy, "Tim" to the principal's office. The school determined that he wasn't a threat but the Arvada police wanted the boy arrested. They took him away in handcuffs, put him in a cell, fingerprinted him and kept him from his parents.

Unlike Jared Loughner, this boy has no prior unsettling history.

A juvenile assessment report shows he's never been in legal trouble before and is at low risk to reoffend.

In 2007 a 13 year old Arizona boy was suspended for drawing a gun.

In 2010 an 8 year old Portland boy was suspended for possessing a 4 inch toy gun made for action figures.

One has to ask why children are held to higher moral and legal standards than are liberals.

Don’t bring a thumb and an index finger to a gun fight.

Since when is expressing an opinion a crime?

Shutting out the parents through this whole episode was grievously wrong.

There should have been a meeting between the principal, the teacher, the school physician or psychologist and the parents of the child and the child.

It was wrong for the achool to take the law and all decisions into their own hands without the consent or approval of the parents.

There could be a lawsuit over this.

Crazy world now. When I was a kid, we brought our cap guns to school and played “Cowboy and Indians” during recess.

>>There could be a lawsuit over this.<<

I’ll say! The emotional scars this could cause for such a young person are incalculable. I remember the inane stuff like this we used to have scribbled on our Peechees back in the day.

This is beyond stupid. It is also hilarious in a “fiddled while rome burned” sort of way.

I get the feeling that if push comes to shove the police are going to be on the side of the facists.

“...played “Cowboy and Indians” during recess.”

And we drew quite a lot in class while bored out of our skulls. Mostly battle scenes, plenty of cannons, bombs, and belt-fed weapons. Lots of personal mayhem as well. Nobody gave it a second thought.

Just another wonderful reason to seriously consider home schooling...

That’s right, do whatever it takes to permanently alienate this kid and push him over the brink.

...but the Arvada police wanted..

Just "the Arvada police" huh? WE WANT names DOC! Blaming a faceless bureaucracy is excusing it, imo. Who is the fkl;ing police chief? Who was the arresting officer who showed up and made the decision? Give us ALL the NAMES! I'm sick of that tactic.

Because the Arvada kid was being treated for ADHD the police will have a real problem with the law suits that will soon be coming. A few years ago in a school system where my kids went to school, a 6th grader actually brought pipe bombs to school. The kid was in a special ed program and was not arrested and the school district had a real tough time expelling him.
