What happens when you get a few intellectuals together? You get a few critical shots at things with mass appeal.
Over the last two weeks, Bloomberg Television has been airing the Intelligence Squared debate held in New York City earlier this month with thought leaders like Arianna Huffington, Zev Chafets, P.J. ORourke and New York Times columnist David Brooks.
During this debate, at issue was whether the conflict in political discourse was creating highly polarized political parties. Brooks linked this conflict to Fox News and host Glenn Beck.
I believe in conflict, Im a columnist, conflict is fine with me, Brooks said. And Im fine with that as long as its constructive. The problem is we have parties that dont represent the country. We now have heres a fact from Morris Fiorina, Stanford political scientist: More people own ferrets than watch Fox News.

"You tell 'em 'Ferret Face.'"
To say he is rodent-like is a disservice to rodents, IMO.
More people know what the inside of an elephants butt looks like than what David Brooks face looks like....well, perhaps it’s the same number.
More people used LA Times or NY Times as cat litter paper I know i do LOL!
Anybody is Ferret owner check this out LOL!
Those numbers are as ridiculous as the Corporation for Public Broadcasting claiming that 170M Americans listen to their drivel.
Yeah, stick with gerbils, David. Ferrets can be pretty mean.
He’s for conflict as long as everyone agrees with him. It is so obvious these people don’t think before they speak. I have a relative who said “I always for the individual. But once, in a fit of insanity, I voted for Reagan.” I swear he not only said it. He POSTED it on FB for the world to see.
According to this website, there were just over 1 million ferret owners in the US as of 2007.
I know shows such as O'Reilly and Hannity have more than double that number of viewers.
So it took me less than five minutes to research that claim and show it is false.
Something Brooks apparently couldn't be bothered to do before using it on-air.
Typical lame-assed 'journalist'.
...clearly David Brooks lives in a very isolated world surrounded only by the like minded.
And the prize goes to ... rlmorel!
Fox News channel reaches just under 100 million viewers. That is approximately one third of the U.S. population and far more people than own ferrets, I’m sure. The inconsequential fake ‘conservative’, David Brooks, is a dope.
Thank goodness for FR. I can get a smile out of this site no matter how discouraging the news seems to be! Glad I could provide one.
I saw a post the other day on a Libya thread that made me laugh:
"When Ghaddafi gets his eyes gouged out by his captors, will Bono get his sunglasses back?"
More people watch Fox News than any other cable news.
So what does that say about the other wanna-be news outlets?
Brooks is a mulatto lovin’ sock cucker!
There are more people on the toilet than watch FOX - at this moment.
WTF does any of it have to do with the price of oil?
Should have had a “barf alert” on this one! David Brooks doesn’t have a clue what he’s talking about. Putting him with Arianna Huffington and calling it “the intelligence squad” has to be some kind of hidden sarcasm.
